ok so in my camaro i have pretty much done a full weight reduction on it and still managed to keep the interior mostly intact-the back seats ...so instead of back seats i was wondering what the cost would be for a box that takes the place of the back seats with 2 12s where the bottom would be and 3 10s across the top (one where each back seat passenger would put his back and another in the middle...i also need capacitor amps and equalizer space and i want to try to keep most of it flush mounted) so if anyone would know a round about price for fiberglass and wood it would be appreciated

True, but not typically on the order of 1 farad or greater.

OP, you're talking about removing the back seat completely, and just creating a huge custom enclosure for three 10's, two 12's, and all of the associated electronics?

If you did it yourself, that's one thing, but if you're thinking about paying someone else to do it, you're look at quite an expense.

The do-it-yourself variety will probably cost you a couple hundred in materials alone, assuming you don't have to do anything twice. That doesn't include the price of all the tools you'd need, such as a good router and bits, nail-gun, and other various things I can't think of at the moment.

If you plan on paying someone to do it, get ready to bend over, and don't forget the lube...

i have all the tools and materials and the electronics but i was wondering what the difference in price for wood compared to fiberglass....and also i know that amps have caps in them but and external cap will do me more good than some crappy internal cap

Well, I guess it all depends on how you want this contraption to look. A "wood" box will probably cost less in the end, but it'll be boxy, bulky, and weigh a lot more than the factory seats. A fiberglass box will look better if done right, weigh a lot less, but it'll probably cost more and will take a lot longer to do.

Assuming you have every necessary piece of equipment and you don't mind the amount of man-hours needed to perform either task, you're looking at a wood box that'll probably cost you close to $100 in materials. I'm betting after all is said and done, a fiberglass box will be at least double that, depending on whether or not you have to re-do any portions of the box. I would say you should be prepared to spend about $250-$300 on fiberglass materials.

It all depends on whether or not you have all the right tools to build the box and most importantly how proficient you are at woodworking/fiberglassing.

If this is your first venture into either world, you could easily be spending twice what I quoted.

You honestly are telling us you have the tools and things necessary to do good fiberglass work. I mean, creating a form, sanding ,gel-coat / painting, and installation of fiberglass are a big job.

Its not THAT hard i made some kick ass speaker pods for the door on an old thirdgen with two pieces of wood, a t-shirt , fiberglass ,and some epoxy resin .it just takes imagination and creativity .

Speaker pods on the doors are one thing, a sub box to enclose two 12's and three 10's with all associated amps and capacitors is a whole nother can of worms.

my family owns a multimillion dollar race shop and we run fiberglass bodies so i have a bit of experience doing fiberglass work...but i think after thinking about it and planning out the box im just gona go with the two 12s on the floor behind the front seats and put the 3 10s in my wifes truck because i believe its gona look to ricey if i do all those speakers back there but i really appreciate all the help and inputs to finialize my decision

Whats the point of weight reduction when you are going to add more weight than what you originally had? Kinda pointless dont you think?
