Go look at what a 2002 Camaro is selling for today...that's a good guesstimate.

you take a loss once you drive it off the lot. 1/2 it's MSRP w/ say 50k miles(5yrs from now) for the v8, less for the v6, would be my guess..

I don't know what to think of the Blue Book... someone looked up a 1SS stock, and 1SS with 5,000 miles on it... the used car had more of a value than the new one is what he said. That sounds silly to me, and makes me question the book.

Same here. I've sold or traded in every car I've ever owned, but THIS one's MINE forever!

Most cars loose about 50% of their value over 4 years and half again over the next 4 years then the depreciation slows. This would suggest that in 8 years it would be worth 25% of MSRP. So far Camaro has depreciated slower and indications are it will be on the good side of the range for depreciation. I still would not expect more than 35% of MSRP after 8 years. So a 2SS that was $36 new will be worth around $12-13

You car will be completely worthless. You should sell it to me for a nickel today before it loses any more value and I offer three pennies.

Seriously, all cars are mechanical creations that wear and break over time. This inherent fact makes them lose value as their parts deteriorate. More miles and more time both wear on the vehicle. For most cars, their value never returns to what it was or even close. A good restoration on a classic 30 years later might net its value back only if the vehicle is a high-demand legend of its time. 7 years from now, the Camaro will be worth less than it is now. It will probably be a lot less than it is now, depending on miles and condition.

One thing to consider is we bought these cars new in a relatively bad economy. Lets be honest if this car had been made in the Clinton Era, we would see them everywhere. I would imagine the demand for a new car is down due to the economy and just from listening to car salesman gripe about it. This may temporarily push up the demand and price of a used car for sometime. I just hope we dont flood the roads like Mustangs. If its our daily driver, well we got our 4 or 5 years out of it with some equity. I d like to be able to have 33% of the equity by the time it paid off. I guess we can also consider the possibility that this is will be the new classic. Someone's project car in 2050. I think the future memories of how much we loved this car will be priceless. We can tell some kid why is solar powered electric car is POS.. etc.

On the note, I feel bad for people who pay a monthly car payment who dont love their car...

Im happy with my car right now. Heck, its WAY better than my FIRST car. a NISSAN VERSA. You think i enjoyed paying monthly for a small car that I didnt like? LOL. I think about depreciation as well.. but then again, I'm one of those people who think about the now and present. I'm gonna enjoy my car while it lasts, and when the time comes for me to "Sell" the car, we'll cross that bridge

I put on 5500 miles in three months at that rate of 22k a year , in 7 years my SS will have 154,000k miles.

What is it worth then ?

Rule of thumb. 20% once it leaves the lot. 10% every year there after.

keep the car in mint shape and low mileage will keep the value.

Depreciation, is something you live with no matter what new car you buy. It was not even on my list of concerns when I ordered mine.

I bought it for the sheer enjoyment. Been down that road to many times in my life.

Enjoy the car. To me the fact that it is a gorgeous, drop dead vehicle, is enough!

7-8 years is a long time and a lot of miles It will be worth some dollars, but nothing close to new.
