Change Shifter Handle
Hey, I have the factory Hurst short throw shifter in my car from factory.
I am looking to install the Hurst handle with a ball knob. Will the Hurst handle bolt up to mine since I already have their shifter installed? This is what I am looking at: |

Don't think so, found this thread
http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151766 If that's what it looks like underneath, the aftermarket handle won't fit. I'd say change the whole shifter, definitely worth it.

I understand what your saying, I went and looked at that thread.
But if I bought the entire kit, I would be replacing the main shifter with what already is installed. ( Hurst short throw shifter with same Hurst throw shifter) Just want the chrome arm and knob If the last resort is to replace everything, I guess I will but I hoped for other options. Thanks for the help Last edited by MrFrost; 12-19-2013 at 12:11 PM. Reason: grammer |

I re-read the article and a couple of other links and now understand I will have to get the entire kit to get the look I want. Should be a better way......
Thanks. |

Sorry for the super late response, but the hurst factory shifter is much different from the hurst aftermarket shifter. The aftermarket one is significantly shorter than the factory installed one

What can I do if I'm trying to install a whole new shift kit and the damn screws that hold the linkage underneath are stripped out?? I'm screwed idk what to do.

What screws? The shift rod connects via pins. The only screws hold the housing of the shifter assembly to the tranny tunnel. I'm confused.

Not being sure which screws are stripped, I'd offer that the ZL1 shifter assembly you bought is exactly as your stock Camaro EXCEPT FOR THE SHIFTER ITSELF. So, if you have goobered any other part of your new shifter assembly, you should be able to sub in a piece from the old unit.

I figured our out and did a whole diy post on how to change the whole assembly. I decided I would just change it all out instead of just the shaft with linkage.

LOL, I thought your 'screw strip' issue was after the DIY. Your DIY lost credibility for a minute.
Glad it worked out. |

No the post was before the diy not after lmao. I'll never go back to a stock shifter. Makes a world difference
