Spotted ZL1 tonight - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

So I'm going home from work tonight on La Palma, heading toward yorba Linda, MMOB and I see a newer black camaro behind me... He's a ways behind me.. looks like he has an aftermarket hood maybe.. can't tell.
The gap between us closes and he gets behind me.
I'm stuck behind a minivan and the car next to the minivan is going the exact same speed...so we're both locked in...I still can't tell any difference between his car and any other camaro from my rearview...
Finally the minivan eeks out enough so I can change lanes and get around.. so I get over and I notice the camaro is dying to do the same thing... So, feeling good about it being Friday..I nail it after going around the minivan with the camaro tattooed on my ass... For about 500 feet or so... Then I'm pulling away... By this time I'm going 90-95ish (I know, not safe..but fun for a quick little sprint).
I realize I'm going too fast and hit the brakes..slow to normal speeds.
Camaro catches up and we find ourselves turning right onto Yorba Linda Blvd.
I make my turn and get far over to the left and he takes the middle lane, the light ahead is red so Im not gunning it just so I can stop in 300 feet.
He zooms by ala Banzai style and I realize.. holy Shit.. its a ZL1 !!! Nice.
We both stop at the light, I'm 2 cars deep and so is he. We are right next to each other.
His ZL1 is black on black & convertible...he has it all down and open.
as I pull up next to him I roll my window down and look over and give him a thumbs up.. he doesn't even acknowledge me (I know he can see me)... seconds later a guy in a BMW rolls up on the other side of him. He sticks his head out of the window and yells "nice car man" and gives him a thumbs up.
Guy in the camaro doesn't acknowledge him at all either... He just sits there like he's Mr. Badass and stares intently at the traffic in front of him.
Light turns green and traffic moves enough for him so he can gun it (exhaust sounded awesome btw) and scoot up to the front of the line before we hit the red light at the next signal. So he's driving aggressive... I follow suit and cut off a prius so I can be right behind him at the light.(sorry Mr prius... I too can be a bit douchy at times.. but not like Mr Badass in front of me)
So, I'm thinking, yeah its on now.. he saw me move in behind him.
Light turns green and he nails it... As do I and I pull around to the side of him and wait to be destroyed by the mighty ZL1... There is no traffic in front of us, (based on all the spirited driving we just did) I'm waiting for him to pull on me or something.. but no, we hit 60-70 maybe and he shuts it down.
I keep pulling and shut it Down before I hit 100..
So maybe I'm the unsafe asshole that enjoys a spirited drive home that fractures a law or 2... But WTF?!
Why this guy did what he did confused the Shit out of me.
I dont know if he was trying to race or not, can't drive the car "properly" yet or if he was just being a good boy and trying to not get into trouble..
He could have done it in a less smug assholish douchy way IMO.

yes.. i heard about that whole anaheim PD to Sherrif conversion... i hear they are even more ruthless than before over on Yorba Linda Blvd. if its posted at 45mph and you're going 47.. you get a ticket.

and yes, i am lucky nobody saw us...
