Pro Bono CQuartz Coating

I had a free day today so I grabbed my grandma's car and went to town on it. She's always so thrilled after getting her car detailed that I love doing it. She's definitely earned it over the years.

Anyway, so my gameplan today was a full exterior detail, including complete paint correction, engine bay detail and CQUK coating. I initially planned to do the interior and do a FlyBy30 glass treatment, but ran out of time and steam. That will have to wait for another day.

Product List:
Dawn
Optimum Car Wash (foam gun)
D101 1:1 (tires, wheel wells), 10:1 (engine bay)
Adam's Deep Wheel Cleaner 1:1
Various brushes
Speedy Prep towel
ONR clay lube
PC 7424xp
Menz FG 400
Menz SF4500
Buff n Shine MF polishing pads
Optimum MF spot pads
LC Blue pad
Carpro Eraser
CQuartz UK
Carpro Reload
D120
UTTG+

Procedure:
1. Clean engine bay
2. Clean tires, wheels, wheel wells
3. Rinse and foam car, wash with Dawn
4. Pull car in garage, clay with Speedy Prep
-One thing I do is, while claying, I put a piece of tape next to each deep RID or scratch I see. That makes it easier when I go around and spot correct.
5. Begin spot correcting with FG 400 and Optimum Compounding MF pad, 3''
6. Play around with my polishes and pads to get the results I'm looking for. Settled on a Buff N Shine Finishing pad with FG400, speed 5. Four passes with slow arm speed and moderate pressure until it begins to flash, then two passes with faster arm speed and very light pressure.
7. Jeweled with LC Blue pad and SF4500. I liked light pressure on about 4 for this paint.
8. Pull car out, rinse, do quick wash with no soap, just ONR solution and very soft MF towel (MM Crazy Pile).
9. Dry car, door jambs, trunk.
10. Pop hood, dry and dress engine bay with UTTG+
11. Vacuum interior
12. Apply CQUK
13. Hit trim and tires with UTTG+ while waiting for CQUK to cure
14. Go around car with Reload. Curse profusely.
15. Clean windows

The flake in this paint is insane. This is my favorite paint of all time, it's called Tuxedo Black. It's a super metallic black that just looks amazing when it's polished up. Due to the high flake, my camera would not take any pics of the swirls, so you'll have to take my word for it. I put in probably 7 hours of polishing on this car.

Here's a few pictures I did grab, most are just after pics:

Thanks for looking.

That is so cool to do that for your grandmother, and that she appreciates it so much! My grandmother has macular degeneration so she can't tell the difference between that job or you smearing Vasoline all over the paint. What do you think of CQuartz? I have a buddy who did it to his M3 and loves it.

As I always say nice work Matt. That paint is beautiful. Wish more people would give people like you more credit here at C5, you are a true detailer. Congrats to you and your grandma.

Thanks guys. Means a lot. My grandma is awesome. Shes done so much its nice to be able to give just a small amount back.

I like cquartz a lot. This was my first go with the UK version and reload . I definitely need to practice and learn how to use reload properly. I'll withhold judgment until I'm sure my technique is good enough to do the product justice.

So how much harder/different is the application of CQuartz vs. something like Wolf's Body Wrap?

Almost exactly the same. With CQUK, you apply the same way, keep rubbing it in until it flashes. Then wipe off any excess.

The trick with CQUK is that you let it cure for an hour, then go over the whole car with Reload.

With regular CQuartz, you apply it like BFWD. You apply to the whole car, then wipe off after 30 minutes. No reload step necessary.

CQUK seems to be a more desirable with the more scratch resistant properties right ?

UTTG+ works great in the engine bay, great durability and gives a matte finish. You could also go with Perl if you want a glossier and deeper black look but it is not as durable as UTTG+.
