Disable 2013 hill assist
I've posted this in the general section already, but I've gotten no useful responses yet. Does any one know of a way, be it temporary or semi permanent, to disable the hill start assist in the manual 2013? I was in the market for a camaro, but if I'm stuck with this feature, I'm buying a mustang. I can turn this feature off on the mustang. The directions are even in the owners manual. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Test drive a '13 and see if it's an issue for you. My friends that own '13s have said it works fine for them.
Why worry about something you haven't had a problem with yet. |

Why would you want to disable it?

its not really a big deal , i don't get it . why do you want to roll back when your on a hill , i mean i don't need it and wouldn't try and retrofit it to my formula but since it has it i wouldn't defeat it . it cant be that bad or annoying.

it can be surprisingly annoying when it kicks in. you do not need this feature if you know how to drive stick, and it doesn't release properly like it should when you start rolling forward. it seems to be set to a static timer instead of sensing when you get the car moving.

Send a PM to GTPprix, if it's possible he can probably do it.

It's partially principal. I drive a standard because I want as much control of the vehicle as possible. I've been driving manual since I was 14, I'm pretty good at it. I understand the purpose of the hill start assist and think it's great, if the driver can disable it. I've read on this forum and other chevy forums that the system sometimes does not deactivate quick enough. Unacceptable. Perhaps if you're having trouble driving a manual on a hill, chevy provides an option for that; an automatic transmission...
Thanks slick rick, I'll shoot him a line. |

I would also like to turn this feature off. Very annoying for an experienced driver.

I hate, hate, hate this feature!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two seconds might not seem like a long time, but when traffic is moving and your sitting there like a jackass revving the engine and not moving, it's quite embarrassing. I've been driving a manual for 19 years, but it feels like my first day in this car. I'm starting to miss my 2011. :( CHEVY, HOW CAN I TURN THIS OFF?????? |

I have it on my 2012 Challenger (1 year of ownership now), and was unsure about it at first, but I never really notice(d) it.
I haven't driven my ZL1 on hills yet, but can't imagine that it would be any more noticeable than the Challenger (same TR6060 Trans for both) I'd say don't let it influence your purchase decision - it really seems to be unobtrusive. (unlike skip-shift) I've been driving stick since my 1st car at 16 - I'm officially OTH now. (pun and double entendre intended) |

To the OP, I've had my car on inclines and hills and Hill Assist has only kicked in on my buddies driveway, so it doesn't really kick in to often and it shouldn't be a deciding factor as it will rarely come up. |

If you live in Florida, Hill assist might not kick-in a lot. But if you live anywhere that actually has hills, it's significantly obtrusive. I am held in place by Hill Assist daily and would disable hill assist even if it meant -10hp. It's that irritating. Inexplicable to me how this "feature" made it into a GM Performance Division model.
