NEW GM: WHAT ABOUT THE RULES OF FREE ENTREPRISE?

UNBELIEVABLE THE US GOVERNMENT IS TAKING OVER GM. THIS IS AGAINST THE RULES OF FREE ENTREPRISE. IT FALSIFIES COMPETITION AND IT PUNISHES COMPANIES THAT SURVIVED THE CRISIS AND TOOK RESPONSABILITY FOR THE JOBS OF THEIR WORKERS.

Sorry....but GM did it to themselves. The economy didn't help out either. But, not the Governments fault. The government didn't just step in and say, "We are taking over."

Now...I see this thread getting out of hand really quickly....so.....

Gov. Is just looking to save a ton of jobs and keep the economy from getting worse. If GM had 300 employees it wouldnt be getting so much special attention. The Gov. is looking out for its own (the country's) best interest.

Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

I don't think that alot of people realize what would really happen if GM and Chrysler would cease to exist. More than just the Jobs at these companys would be lost. It would force alot of their suppliers to go out of business also, this would affect other automakers also with parts supplies. The ripple is far greater than most people realize, the government is stepping in to prevent this from happening, saving millions of jobs in the process. While alot of you might not understand or like why its happening, I am sure that the people building the car we all love and other cars for these two companys are very happy that they now have a chance to keep their jobs because the government steped in and saved the companies they work for.

If they government can GIVE the banks that mismanaged their business 700 BILLION free and clear because they're "too big to let fail", then they surely can can LOAN the automakers a few billion for the same reason. Personally it's the first one that bothers me.

I'm glad the government stepped in because I think we would have been much worse off if they hadn't. That being said, I wish people would spend a moment and think before they parrot free market ideaology. The golden rule is simple but true, " those with the gold make the rules." An updated version would be written as "Those with the gold make and change the rules as necessary to maintain control of the gold." IMO.

but wasn't that why they were pumping billions into GM for half a year already? to save them from going bankrupt in order to save jobs etc? everybody was like "ooooh we can't let them go bankrupt!!!" and now all of a sudden bankruptcy is the right thing to do?!

i really don't get it. what was all the money good for?

Swapping 65 billion in govt. money (US and Canada) for an undisclosed amount of shares of a company (new GM) with an undisclosed value is hardly a loan.
