Windows 7.....(better than sliced bread)
Who is using Windows 7?
I've been using Vista for the past year. I've been using a dual partition with Win 7 for about 1 month now and it's head and shoulders above Vista (for me). 1st thing I noticed is how easy it was to load this new OS! The boot-up is 10x's quicker (seems like it)..... With Vista running, not only does it take FOREVER to load but....I always have some type of hard drive activity going on it seems, lots of noise associated with this..and response delays.......Win 7....quiet as a mouse and quick. Finding stuff in explorer got really convoluted when Vista showed up. Could never figure out how to search efficiently, Windows 7 has a new system using librairies that automatically puts pics together, video, music, data, etc... Basically for me the....big diff is the speed. |

Been using it since Beta in January. It's awesome. I especially LOVE Media Center. Noone has anything that can even bother competing. I've got an absurdly complicated tuner setup (bought different ones at different times for different purposes) and it set them up with almost no intervention on my part.

I agree with the first post - but I went from XP to 7, and it was still an improvement in speed (both boot and running). Take that as you will though, because I was running 64 bit XP, which isn't the greatest of 64 bit systems, to say the least. - Xanthos

it's bulletproof, i've got it running through virtualization, some of the design layout i'm still not loving, but as far as i can see, the guts of it seem pretty solid. i prefer it over OS X.
i run vista on my dell laptop, 7 runs through virtualization (sun virtualbox) on that. my macbook pro has 10.5 leopard and i virtualize windows XP on that (parallels). my only beef is with virtualization of it, the mouse can't detect correctly so it's constantly tripping out all over the screen. that's a problem with virtualbox though i believe. anyone know if parallels will support windows 7? virtualbox is free and doesn't have the same refinement as parallels does and yeah hemlawk shouldn't be a problem, i'm running vista and 7 simultaneously with no problem, i've got 2.5ghz dual core & 4 gb ram.

Win7 is what Vista should have been all along.
Most of my systems are spread out between Win XP, Ubuntu 6.10 through 8.10 and a Vista box. My primary system is a dual-boot XP SP3 and Win7 RC. As long as MS doesn't screw the pooch with pricing, I will more than likely upgrade the XP boxes to 7 over a month or two.

Nice. I'm just wondering how easy it'd be to swap over full time in Oct. to Win 7 from my current Vista SP1 setup. If it's only a pair of disks to lay over Vista I might splurge on it for shits and giggles.
Lord knows if it screams faster than Vista and isn't as annoying, I'm going to do it. Maybe even do my brothers computer (we both are very meh on Vista for College comps..) |

From my understanding....we will all have to do new "clean" installs after the official release comes out!

I think the "clean" install is only from XP. But either way, a "clean" install will work better IMHO.

Yes. Clean install is always the way to go, even if you can upgrade, I wouldn't recommend it.
I've got the 7 RC running on my HP Mini 1000 (1GB ram, 1.6ghz ATOM CPU, 16GB SSD) and it runs fine. |
