2010 Mustang GT review by Motor Trend

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...ive/index.html

I was just in the shower this morning thinking to myself: I hope the mags get a hold of the Mustang GT before they get a crack at the SS, then they'll already have impressions of the GT's #'s to put in the article to highlight just how much of a better vehicle the SS really is. I think GM may have waited to give the mags an SS for this specific reason.

A few things to note...
Price as tested: $33,520... about $600 less than a 2SS
MPG: 16/24, the SS pretty much matches this 300+ extra lbs and 100 more HP

That's got to be a pretty conservative number... GT's 0-60 is 5.2 versus around 4.6 for the SS that has an extra gear. LS3's got a pretty nice tourqe curve so it should be barrleling through the whole way.

Are we going to be in first or second when 60 comes up?
I read somewhere corvettes post such quick times because they're still in first gear. Anybody else hear anything about that?

I love the way 80% of the people on the comment section point out how the camaro is superior in every way. We may not win the sales war, but it seems that the average unaffiliated buyer is seing the light. We'll definetly have a better chance with this new generation.

I agree it is an improvement, but against the Camaro SS the mustang is going to get beat like a red headed step child. Also notice that inorder for the 2010 mustang to begin to shine, it needs very expensive optional equipement, which makes the mustangs price virtually identical to the camaro while STILL being inferior to it. For an example, including destenation charges the base mustang cost 28,845, then add the track package ($1495) then it becomes $30,340. which is only 655 dollars less than a Camaro SS. The Camaro SS for only $655 more you get superior 4 pot Brembo brakes front and rear, IRS, 6spd transmissions, 50/50 front to rear weight distribution, over 100 more hp and about a 100lbs more torque. But what really puts the nail in the coffin is that the camaro will also get better fuel economy!!! 2010 is going to be a loooong year for the mustang faithfull, By the way the Camaro is absolute proof that we can have a high performance IRS at a afordable price, ford just don't want to do it.
Man that truth411 guy posts on motortrend comment section sure do know his stuff lol.

From the numbers I've done, it looks like all the Camaro's (V6's / V8's, Auto or Manual) will be in second gear as 60mph disappears in the dust behind us.

Motor Trend recently tested the LS3 G8 GXP and got a 0-60 time of 4.5 sec with a 1/4 mi. time of 13.2 @ 109.5 mph. I can't see the SS being slower!

What do you guys think Ford surprise announcement for the mustang will be at the detroit auto show? I think it will be a 350 hp Eco-boost engine for the 2010 mustang as an option. IDK.

They seem to praise it as much better than the current Mustang.

But they don't go much farther beyond that. I mean, when testers took out the IVER V6 Camaro, they were falling over themselves describing how great the handling is...how amazing the pickup is, and how this is most definitely not a 'base' model....I can't wait to see what they say about the SS.....but I got none of that "WOW" effect from this article....

It's shamefull that the Mustang GT is way out gunned by the Camaro SS. The GT should really be sitting beside the Camaro V6 direct inject. Can't Ford pull-off a good V8?

I will say that I like it's styling better than the previous model though.

I've always liked the new Mustangs but the interior and rear axle has kept me away. I'd like to see more power too but before the Camaro was released (at least what engine would be used), 300 plus hp wasn't too bad really.

I still like the looks, just not the two things I've mentioned.

Plus, I've ordered my Camaro already so I'll not change my mind now...and I only paid a few hundred more than that one was tested at!
