Try removing the negative battery cable for 10 mins.

just an FYI; I upgraded to IOS 11 last night. new updates on Carplay showed up (most of the changes in the map application). I had no issues after the upgrade.

I had to unpair and re-pair once to get it working again.

Mine is always hit and miss: sometimes I plug phone in, and t doesn't start. Sometimes the CarPlay icon shows up on car screen but does nothing when I click it.

I either have to unplug and replug my phone, or go to the CarPlay setting in the mylink, and select my phone....then it fires up. Super annoying.

Have you looked at the phone? I’ve had it where mine won’t connect sometimes, go through and unpair and re pair, power off, power on (the car) and still nothing.
Try the soft reset feature of the phone if you haven’t already.
Power and home button if iPhone 6s and earlier, power and volume down button if iPhone 7 and later until you see the Apple logo, then release.

My Android Auto works great with my Galaxy S6, but my daughters iphone 6 plus has never worked the way I see on the videos, it charges and plays music but no icons. I am not sure if it is because I have the 7 inch display or maybe a permission setting on her iphone is preventing carplay. I have an Android cable on one USB and an apple cable on the other. I remember having to change a few settings on my Galaxy and on the stereo to allow automatic USB detection when plugged in or it would not work. I never owned an iphone so not sure why it has never worked the way I see on youtube with the iphone/carplay icons etc.

My wifes Camaro is having the same problem. Do you have to have OnStar service for it to work.

No OnStar service needed for Apple CarPlay.

Go on your iPhone. Settings > General > CarPlay > Select your car > Forget This Car.

Then plug your iPhone back in the USB cord in your car, and it will resync like a new device. See if that helps.

Do a Shut Down/Reboot of your iPhone too. Why not.

I do believe iOS11 is contributing to some bugs though.

I saw a Chevy dealer yesterday and I’ll be getting the car serviced next week. Either they have a software (or firmware) update, or they don’t. Then the question is (if no software): Do they replace it, or will the battery reset get things in order for years to come without another reset needed.

Hoping for a software update. System recognizes all iOS devices as iPods.
When I look at the HUD display, it says "iPod" for my iPhone, which is plugged in and where all my music resides. CarPlay still works fine. I'm upgrading this phone shortly, so we'll see how either an iPhone 8 or iPhone X behaves with this car.

The 8/8+ is working just fine so far, would be nice if I could figure out wireless carplay now.
