The federal regulations only apply to the factory built cars. You can get an aftermarket T-Top and still pass your state inspection.

I saw an episode of west coast customs where they installed glass t-Tops in a 5th Gen for Rascal Flats song Red Camaro. It looked really good and like a factory job. They kept the templates so they could make more.

All vehicles produced must meet these standards. However, there is an exemption for convertibles. And convertibles are defined as not having a roof or having a removable roof such that it is not connected to the windshield pillar.

The targa top of the corvette qualifies as a convertible under the exemption and therefore is exempt.

A T-top maintains a connection to the winshield pillar and therefore does not qualify as a convertible and is not exempted.

Whether or not you agree with the regulations, they are what they are.
This is the stupid gov regs at work. Have a roof and you must pass a roof crush of like 5xs car weight. BUT you can buy a Vert with no roof/protection. BullS...This stupid nanny reg is why the Camaro is a coupe instead of a great looking Hardtop...

I do want.

I'd wait a month or two to have (if I ever decide to get one, I'm more partial to a Corvette) those put on a 5th gen.

I guess I need to go sit in a non moon roof vs a moon roof SS and see if my noggin rubs the roof.
Just a thought. Since the mohawk roof is optional, that would mean probably that the mohawk stripe would be optional WITH a mohawk roof. BUT.
What if you wanted a moon roof WITH a mohawk stripes?
I bet you can't do both and that would mean I would have to take my new ZL1 down to a shop to get a center stripe painted. There goes my mod cherry!
Also, I don't know if you plan to drag or autocross your Zl1 but think about helmet room. Mine will spend some time at autoX, you have to wear a helmet and I don't want it rubbing on the headliner.

The ridiculous thing for a manufacturer and t-tops is that by adding a reinforcing member in the "bar" (which you almost have to do), you can create a structure that will support more weight than the standard roof.

I know my old Monte that had t-tops could more than support it's weight (and that car was heavy) on it's roof....I only know because another guy here in town flipped his and while the glass broke, the roof didn't crush in.

T-tops would actually be safer in a roll over (minus the flying glass anyway).

Exclamation

Ok I am confused again.
Straighten my thinking out fellas.
I assume that IF you buy a moon roof that you get a FLAT roof and NOT the mohawk roof correct?
I assume that if you order without the moon roof you automatically get the mohawk roof?
Is the mohawk roof itself an option?
Reason being, is it possible to get a mohawk roof and do a after market sun roof such as the Webasto moonroof?
Can I have both?

I see it now. If you order a non factory roof car with the reverse mohawk you can install the webasto on a reverse mohawk roof. AWESOME!

Correct......Moonroof= Flat roof
Non-Moon roof is Mohawk..not an option you can quote.

A non moon roof car with after market sun-roof is your only bet at this point. I dont know of any that will fit the mohawk roof other than a West Coast Customs modified "T-Top".

Of course you can always be the pioneer and weld up a frame to fit the Mohawk roof that will incorporate lexan which is easier to mold than glass.

If you look at the pictures of the white ZL1, it looks like it has either a sunroof or moonroof. Dont know for sure!
