A6 shifting way before redline - even in PTM5?

I recently went to the dragstrip in my ZL1 and it was quite disappointing. My best time was 12.61 with a 1.8 60' Two other runs were 12.8x MPH was 111.

I had a dash cam running for 2 of the runs and it sure sounds like it was shifting way early on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts.

I admit I wasn't watching the tach, but I was in PTM5 and Sport mode for sure.

I have worn out Google and the search function here, but was wondering if anyone was aware of this issue.

I have not made any follow up runs yet to watch the tach during a repeat, but am pretty sure this is the case.

Watch one of the videos and let me know what you think. (right click on links, save)

It's the convertibles that don't. Autos do.

Hard to tell from watching your video. I'd do a run in your favorite testing area and see where it shifts. I believe there have been some posts saying the auto shifts before redline, but redline may not be the optimal shift point for the auto.

You have to remember also the tach is not moving as fast as the engine is. So it may be 300-500 rpm behind the engine at WOT.

In mode 5 the car still controlls some functions, try with all nannies off and see if it does it.

This is also correct info. same thing a good tuner will tell you. about 500 is a good measurement.

I saw an article that said the transmission shifts at 5800 in Drive and 6000 in Sport mode.

Found the article.

Interesting, does anyone know if you turn the nannies off this still applies?

This is true. The Tachometer will lag slightly behind.

I did the DA calculations and discovered it was around 3000' which translates into a 12.14 @ 114.9. Not too far off the mark for a stock ZL1.

What a relief!
