So I was at the dealer today...

I was getting an oil change today and in the lobby there was a nice hard cover book that all about Camaros. As you could imagine pretty much a history of the car but it was mostly on the 5th gen. It was showing a lot of photos of the car as concept up to production and I saw something pretty odd. There was a picture of a camaro that was probably 1/3 scale but it had the 2014 tail lights. I thought that was odd because the age of the book but then I checked and it was published in 2009. I would have took a picture with my phone but my battery was dead. Did Chevy have this design of the tail lights for some time know?

Yes. It was probably an earlier concept that may have been put on the back burner for the 2014 refresh and transition the styling over to the next generation. Changes like this don't just happen.

Eeeesh! If it was truly a "history" of Camaros book, it may have been a photo of a '69 Camaro. You do know that is what the 2014 tail lights are retro'd from... don't you?

No it was definitely a fifth generation. And I didn't know that about those taillights.

Like this?

One of the original concept designs for the 5th gen, pulling heavily from the 1st Gen.

Yeah. Here is a 69 for comparison. Also notice the gills. Retro influences for the 2014/Gen5.
