Question Does anyone have L99 Cam install gotchas?

I am going to be installing a new cam in my L99 this weekend. I am getting rid of AFM, but keeping the VVT.

Anyone who has done this, please let me know if there are any gotchas or things I should be aware of, or pay special attention to. I have done cam installs in old school small blocks plenty of times, this will be my first LS based.

I look forward to seeing what everyone says.

Aren't ya glad there are no gotcha's TrackZero?

BTW, I didn't find an AFM cam delete DIY in that sub-forum, although I think I saw a YouTube somewhere in my travels. Good luck with the swap.

Yeah, I am hoping it is as straight forward as it looks, but I guess time will tell.

I am going to try and take a bunch of pictures and do a nice write up. That will probably go away pretty quickly though if things are not going smooth.

I used to be a member of a G8 message board and my all-time favorite DIY thread was this one by a member who did the AFM cam swap on his L76: http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=19612

It might help somewhat. What always stuck out to me were the most bizarre looking lifters.

Lots of Patience and proper Torque specs!!! I used the LS3 DIY here and an article on CamaroNow magazine. I believe it was the first or second magazine.

Hopefully my torque wrenches are accurate enough, they should be.

Tear down is taking longer than I anticipated, but over all no real problems. Just impossible to get to half of the stuff on the passengers side

Anyone who has done the VVT cam install in the past, did you reuse the solenoid valve bolt when you bolted the phaser back in or did you replace it? I didn't get a new one in my kit, and in the directions I am looking at it said to use a new one. So I am not 100% sure.

Does anyone know the part number for the steam vent crossover tube hold down bolt? I broke one removing it, and need a replacement now. I haven't been able to find the part number.

Dang! I almost missed a fun thread! Good for you TrackZero. Make sure you have plenty of beer to finish the job.
