By the way.... Master and Commander is a great book series for anyone looking to read something different!
I wish I could enjoy that movie. My boss forced us to watch it as a fire dept to learn leadership lessons. Not bad lessons to be learned at all but it's hard to absorb when the movie comes down as an edict from someone that runs his place of employment like a concentration camp. Many have been fired and demoted(me) and many fear for their jobs but I still feel blessed to be employed. I believe in the promise of the rewards of hard work and will not be distracted. Despite hardships I'm still on the path to getting a 1LE and it will no doubt be an emotional experience, lord willing.

..in regards to being civilized, all I can ad to that is the old PSA commercial ..."a mind is a terrible thing to waste"...<that used to pop up in saracastic conversation dealing with humanity while working CIB....levity breaks up stress...>. We're not quite there yet as a species as a whole. This has been a test of the emergency broadcasting system....

OG's, coming from the Greatest Generation, have many insight's, phrases, and values placed upon us that were handed down from our parent's who grew up during the Depression Era. They fought in World War 2 , sacraficed beyond measures that most today could not comprehend, and built the USA into a World Power from a farming Nation. They showed us how things should, and could, be done. Sadly, they are mostly gone, with the remaining to follow. Their virtues, values, and work ethic may never be see again. So, I being a Baby Boomer, reach out to those like I, and proclaim we share a common bond, no matter what side we stand on issues and realize we are much closer than the sum of our differences...

Like FUBAR and SNAFU and a laundry list of politically incorrect racial and ethnic terms that back then were not offensive. My Dad would ask if we wanted to go eat at the DAGO's joint. That is now an ethnic slur. Where I grew up we had Dagos, Pollacks, Serbs, more Serbs. I would tell my mother I was going to the Pollocks house for dinner. He would do the same when he came to mine. I'm going to the Serbs to play. If you were mad you called the other guy the same thing you called him when you weren't. It was all in the tone of voice and context.

My mother had a list of politically incorrect rhymes and slang terms most of which I'll not repeat on the forum. This one is priceless.

Ladies and Gentlemen
Take my Advice
Pull down your pants
And slide on the ice

It is a Greatest Generation comment on life that was made famous to the Boomer Generation on MASH. Translation -- don't take life so seriously.

They are hard at work on it as we speak, unless they are stone deaf and planning to go work at Ford.
