You don't need the Onstar module for the compass to work.

It means your car doesn't like the cold of Chicago. It wants you to drive you to California so you can put the top down!

Owner's manual states a malfunction present when " -- " (dashes) are displayed. If CAL is displayed then a recalibration is necessary. Unfortunately, it states to find an open area for a good GPS signal and a short amount of driving for automatic recalibration.

As others have stated, driving in tight circles could help, it's how most other cars are recalibrated.

OP has a 2013 but I think the 2010 manual said drive in circles to calibrate the compass.

I don't listen to Katy Perry's genre of music so I have to ask:
Is her song "California Girls" a cover of David Lee Roth's cover
of The Beach Boys' "California Girls"?

Calibrating 'cause the poles flipped - just as the Mayans predicted.
Nothing to be alarmed about, it happens every several thousand years or so.
You're good until the next event.

You don't need to drive around in circles, just drive normally. Sometimes you don't even have to drive at all. I see it every now and then and sometimes my car will recalibrate while just sitting in the driveway.

In my brothers truck (2008 silverado) you have to drive in a figure 8 to recalibrate.

Happened to mine. Drove around in a circle about three times. Light went out, Correct direction came on. Case Closed.

Now this is weird....maybe i watch too much TV. ( think the 1968 classic space movie 2001 with the computer HAL)
I always thought CAL stood for Camaro Artificial Lifeform.

It is crazy, but my car always says "Goodmorning Dave" when first started. What is really weird is my name is not Dave. Any ideas? How do I get it to get the name right? Do I want it to know my real name?
