CR slams MyFord Touch
http://autos.yahoo.com/news/why-the-...em-stinks.html
I've noticed that there are some cheap '11-12 Ford Edge's out there - wonder if this could be one of the reasons. |

I don't know about slamming the funtionality, but I do have to agree with some aspects here.
I think sometimes, knobs are just better. I don't really like the idea of those touch sensitive "slide bars" or whatever they are that this and GM's CUE uses. I think it would be too difficult to be precise. Also, while a feature and functionality rich system seems cool, it really needs to be super super easy to navigate and use...and thats tough to do! Otherwise it really does because a safety hazard on the road. So really, my issues are not with Ford, or any maker in particular, just some of these general issues are my concerns. Whats a shame is that CR will rate these Fords below what is probably fair since in reality the vehicle is likely built well, runs well, reliable, comfortable and all that...and then potential buyers will go out and buy a toyota because of that when in reality they would'nt have even gotten the trim that includes MyFord Touch.

For the first six months my brother-in-law had his, he hated the system. Now that he has gotten used to it, he loves it. CR dings almost any car that has anything other than an AM radio with no more than 2 preset buttons.

This^ a buddy of mine has the MyFordTouch system as well, at first he hated it. Then he started to learn how to use it and got used to it and loves it now.
IMO touch screens dont belong in cars |

I think the biggest problem with is it's just not intuitive. You sit there stabbing your finger all over the screen trying to get somewhere, eventually getting so lost in the menus you simply give up. Not to mention the voice commands are worthless. It starts talking back to you and won't shut up! Makes you want to rip it out of the dash (and I'm not a violent person lol).

I have a 12' Edge and my only complaint about the system is the sensitivity of the touch screen. It could be more sensitive and thus quicker. Other than that its pretty easy to use.
CR is about on par with how my parents acted when they got smart phones. They felt frustrated and overwhelmed, and I still had yet to explain apps and widgets to them. You just have to learn how to use it, just like you would if you went from Windows OS to a Mac OS or vice versa. |

This is the way cars are going to be from here on, it's only gonna get more advanced and some people have to get used to it.

It's really not that bad. Especially on newer models.

I don't know about who all they speak for, I for one will never purchase a car without a screen from here on out.
The cadillac cue system looks great and the one in the new viper along with the digital clusters and graphics are awesome. |

Funny story about toyotas.... they kind of suck.
oh that wasn't funny. But seriously. If people are going to go buy a toyota because CR gave them a higher rating and didn't take the time to test drive a Ford, then they're idiots. But then again, I feel thats why people are still buying Toyota today, they don't shop around. There are many many other cars with better specs than comparably priced toyotas these days...
