Transmission Costs

Why does the Automatic on the LS cost $995 and on every other trim it is $1185? Is this because of the speed being limited to 115 mph and the others being limited at 155mph?

Probably more due to the fact that it is more rugged and has more heavy-duty parts in it.

But it is the same transmission that is in the LT as well. The power specs don't change, I don't see how it would be more rugged in a LT vs the LS? Maybe they figure more people will order the LT, 2LT, SS, and 2SS trims, so they can charge more the those models equipped with a automatic?

I expect that the transmission you get in those models will be better, smoother etc since they are the higher end models.

Do the LS auto's get paddle shifters? If they don't maybe that's why. Or maybe they are just giving the LS buyers a break because they are most likely on the tightest budget.

I seriously doubt it.

Before replying, I went over to the Chevy Builder site and although the latest price increase is not in (+30 for metallic paints and +45 added to shipping) the site gives the auto trans for LS, LT1 AND SS1 $995 and adds $190 for the LT2 and the SS2. I suspect the difference is for the remote start, which adds $190 to the Comfort and Convenience package for the LT1 and is not available on the others. -- laborsmith

Good catch laborsmith. And also, ALL auto camaros have tapshift buttons. Yes, even the LS.

I took the question to include SS too, hence the 6L80... my bad.

The $1185 trans is a different model #. Bigger and beefier.

The SS auto trans is a different model, bigger and beefier, compared to the LS and LT auto transmissions. But the $190 difference applies to both transmissions, depending on if the car is LT1/LT2 or SS1/SS2. -- laborsmith

Epic fail...

It's not a quote "bigger model".

Might want to bone up on some TH history first.
