^^well you're also getting a better sound too!

Overall...doing it at the pump, over time, will still give you a good estimate of your actual gas mileage. I've kept records for literally years...just for fun...to see how my car varies at certian points in the year.

I can also see in my spreadsheet the times when I drive harder or when weather is a factor. I've also found that the pump estimates fall in line with the EPA estimates give or take a couple miles in either direction.

So if this car is getting 20 mpg when it should be getting closer to 29...something's off.

I only have about 700 miles on my Camaro, and I haven't really checked gas mileage accurately yet but I can tell you for certain that on my 2003 motorhome with the Chevy 8.1L that ethanol based fuel (I'm in the Midwest) kills my gas mileage, by almost a full mile per gallon! and remember that's a big difference in a motorhome. Every 7 miles, there goes $3 or $4 dollars. If I take a 1000 trip with 10% ethanol fuel it costs me about 15% more in fuel money. So around Chicago I fill-up with premium, as I figure the better fuel economy from not using ethanol equals out as cheap as the additional $18 to fill-up 75 gallons of gas. Gas at the pump is not always the same!

Well, let see. I've driving about 2100 miles in the last 5 weeks and used about 97 gallons of gas. A 10% improvement in fuel economy would have saved me about $24 over the past 5 weeks, or roughly $250 per year.

Given the cost of going with just a muffler replacement (~$300) or an axle back kit (~$500-$600) or a cat-back kit (~$1500), it would pay for itself in about 1.2 yrs, 2-2.4 yrs, or 6 yrs, respectively.

But how many of us are doing an exhaust system change to improve MPG? It's all about fixing the sound characteristics of the V6 to match our preferences. Increasing MPG is an added benefit.

2x AR25's $80, shop labor $70, $150 total for a nice sounding Axle Back replacement.

Do you have data to back that up? I've ready plenty of posts from people who replaced their mufflers and nobody reported anything like that.

MY MILEAGE SUCKS!

I did buy the V6 for the mileage, I did not "settle" because I couldn't afford a V8; I already have a 1998 SS with 58K.
The 1998 is rated 17/25 and I average 24-27 a tank using a calculator. Only mod is Flowmaster system after the Y-pipe.

I check the 2010 with the calculator and the DIC is almost exactly the same as the calculator when I fill up. I reset it before I leave the station.
3200 miles so far and I am getting 18-21 per tank. This replaced my 2007 Impala with a 3.5L rated 29 highway and I averaged 32-36 every tank.
I drive my new one the same way I drove the Impala. So it is not a matter of my style; I use the gas pedal to get the most mileage from my cars.
An occasional launch I do on any of my other cars has had very little effect over the course of a tank.

I would like to see an "Instant MPG" on the DIC. Other GM models have this.
I wonder if the computer can be reprogrammed to display that data where the blank screen is? My dealer's service department said they couldn't.

A Flowmaster system (when they are available) will be my next mod on this car; hopefully to improve MPGs!

its strange that your ls1(v8) is getting better mpgs than your 2010(6). are you using 87 in the 6 and 93 in the 8?

On my auto I got 16.9 mpg on the first tank and 17.1 mpg on the second (manual calculation matched the DIC, 87 octane). That's 100% city driving with the AC on the absolute max all the time (90+ and humid here every day for the last few weeks). Since I only have 500 miles on my car and I drive it fairly hard (in Sport mode with fast accelerations), as long as it keeps creeping up I'll be happy.

I also chose the V6 over the V8 for the better gas mileage and lower costs (gas, insurance, initial cost, etc). If gas prices start going up again I'll drive a little more conservatively, but right now I'm enjoying the power!

If your car isnt tuned for that gas, it doesnt do anything for it and maufacturers recommend you dont do that.
87 for me as recommended

Last tank -- regular 87 octane, Kroger's gas station.
21.03 mpg (readout said 22.1), 30% highway and 70% trying to set 0-45 record at stoplights (except when a cobra was revving, then I took it easy to not give him the satisfaction).
