I realized that I never shared my permanent and flexible solution to my battery drain that I believe is caused by my Technostalgia taillights. If you have these lights and want show mode to work, follow these simple instructions:
I recently made some modifications to the wiring that allows me to switch back and forth between a switched source and a constant source. Here is the summary of what I did: Since I occasionally go to shows, I wanted the ability to leave the "show mode" running without a having the key turned or the parking lights on and for normal use flip back over to the switched source so there is no constant drain on the battery. You will want a SPDT (single pole double throw) switch with an ON-ON configuration for the power, and a SPST (single pole single throw) for the ON-OFF of the show mode. No stores around me carried the SPDT switches so I ordered them online for about $2 each. To wire the SPDT, I simply ran the wire from the switched source (in my case the amplifier remote turn-on) to one pole and the wire from the constant source (the battery in this case) to the other pole. The single pole out went back to the taillights. Now I have the ability to switch to a constant power source (battery) when I am at shows and I don't have to leave the lights on or the key in the ignition. When I am driving the car normally, I keep the switch on the switched source so I do not get any battery draw from the taillights when the car is sitting in the garage. Overall, this solution works exactly like I had hoped, and gives me the best of both worlds. If you aren't worried about the "show mode" feature then this probably doesn't mean much to you, but if you do it's a great wiring option. |

Thought I would update my thread with my latest project. This week I added some bumps in the trunk!
I chose a JL Audio 12w3v3-2 12" sub mounted in a ******** stealth box. I also added a JL grill for a little extra protection for the sub. As you probably read in an earlier post, I already had a JL Audio XD700/5 amp. This install was really easy since I had a 5th channel ready and waiting! I ran the HD-RLC remote volume control knob up to the driver's side console. I even painted the nut holding on the volume knob black since the silver was visible from the driver's seat. I am really impressed with the sound of this sub. The install also looks really clean in the trunk. Here are a few pics: Before you ask, the switch next to the knob is for my footwell lighting. |

I appreciate it Normagene! I definitely try to make sure all my installs are nice and clean. I really like the shifter too. It's a pistol grip and has a line lock switch built in. I bought it from forum vendor CFD. |

Where did you get your shifter from? Is that from CFD here on the site? Been thinking of getting one

Yes, it's from CFD. I had him change up his typical design to incorporate a momentary switch for my line lock instead of the tap shift. He was great to work with and the turnaround was very quick. His customer service is top notch too. You won't be disappointed.

Spent my evening building custom engine bay strip lighting and harness to tie into my NightOwl Controller. It's got two light strips built in. The front strip is about 4-1/2 feet long and will run across the front of the engine. The second strip is about 3 feet long and will mount against the firewall. All the connections are soldered and have been wrapped in heat-shrink. All exposed wiring has also been wrapped in wire loom. It worked fine using a 9v battery, so my fingers are crossed that it will all work tomorrow when I install it! Here's a pic:

That is one sweet wicked ride. I enjoy following this thread and hear about what is next on the list. I like seeing what can be done to the Z.
