Gas Guzzler tax question?

Hey, has anyone asked or answered this. Will the SS be classified as a gas guzzler and a tax levied against it? Or will it have the skip shift like in the 4rth gens be used to circumvent this issue. Or maybe it will not be taxed at all as is?I was looking at a challenger sticker price and noticed the tax of $1700 on it. Anyhow I did a search on the site and did not find anything on it.

I don't know, but I think it'll be hard to say it has a gas guzzler tax considering it's the same rated MPG as my fiancee's mazda protege.

What's the point of this dumb guzzler tax anyhow? Doesn't that just help cause the auto industry to collapse? People lose jobs over these dumb rules. Something must be done!

I don't understand the point of a "gas guzzler" tax when:

Those cars cost more anyway so you pay higher sales tax and property tax

They get lower MPG so you end up buying more gas.

Seems superflous to me.

i was reading about the challenger in my motor trend, and apparently the manual has the 1-4 skip shift to avoid the guzzler tax.... i hope the camaro doesn't have it. if it does i hope there's still that $25 skip shift eliminator from summit available.

From what I've read there won't be the dreaded Gas Guzzler Tax on 'em. From what I gathered, it's because they're not tuning the LS3/L99 up to it's full capability.

if your two posts had a baby you would have the right answer

it does have the skipshift and that's why it doesnt have a gas guzzler tax. also you have no need for a skipshift with the l99 since its got an auto and it has AFM

We were told at Indy by Al, Cheryl and the rest of the team that there won't be a gas guzzler on the Camaro.

Speaking of gas guzzler - does anyone know the projected EPA ratings for the manual transmissions?

I know they say 26-27 for the V6 Auto, and 23 for the V8 Auto, but I'm curious about the city ratings and the rating for the manual transmissions.

I'm not sure what to guess on for the V8. Generally, a manual will do better, but the auto has the cylinder deactivation. 23mpg is pretty sorry, in my opinion, when a Corvette is rated for 26mpg with similar power (I know weight and aerodynamics are an issue here).

Anyways - any guesses?

My Predictions, based on what we already know about the Camaro automatics and Corvette figures are:

V8 A/T: 23/13
V8 M/T: 24/14
V6 A/T: 27/18
V6 M/T: 28/19

The numbers we've been given for the v8 is for both manual and auto. The manual (rated at 23 hwy) would be higher then the auto but the autos AFM increases the auto's rating to equal the manuals.

I'm not sure which tranny the v6s rating is based on.

Not calling you a liar, but can you point me to where you've seen that? Every spec I've read lists EPA rating for the automatic transmissions only.

If the Challenger doesn't have it, then the Camaro shouldn't either due to its lower weight, a few hundred pounds I think.

There has been talk that the G8 GXP will have the gas guzzler. That would suck from a sales point of view. I remember the last GTO with 4 speed auto had the gas guzzler (only around 21mpg HWY IIRC) but the manual did not.
