I just finished doing mine in the garage tonight. Total cost was under $90.
I have the tools, and like getting dirty.
Paying a dealership $120 is reasonable, but you don't get to have a beer while it is draining.

i paid $120 as well, but they told me if ibrought the oil in they would put it in for me, that alone would save $80 for synthetic from the dealer. buy it on sale and ask them to use your oil. my dealer is really good..

Interesting. No I would not skimp out on the oil change. Is there a preference for oil? Synthetic of not? I have the v6.

I had mine changed at the Dealer for $100.00

8L of syn and a filter.

While there they also look up recalls and whatnot.

yea it's interesting to note, the savings may not be that significant, especially should a warranty claim be required too in the future...just makes thing easier when the dealer punches it in and sees your car serviced regularly.

(I bring my own synthetic motor oil & oil filter in with me.)

But my selling Cadillac dealer offered to change my oil with the Castrol SLX Professional 4718 5W-30 synthetic for $129.95 Cdn.

(My G8 GT uses 8.8 US Quarts / 8.3L of motor oil.)

My first oil change at the dealership cost $110.60. Well worth it if you don't have the tools or the space.

Honestly imo its important to change it on a regular basis every 5k then buying those boutique oils like amsoil or royal purple and extending to 10k+. Ill stick to what works i use dino oil every 5k no matter what. Been doing that for 20 years now no problems yet. I bought the V6 to be a fun cheap ride putting in 91 oct gas and using synthetic oils defeats the purpose imo. If you want some reading on this go to http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ubbthreads.php

Check the owner's manual for oil recommendation, and also check the oil cap. I know my SS recommended synthetic, and the oil cap indicates Mobil 1 so that's what I'm using.

My 1st oil change at the dealer was free, after that I may take it to my mechanic where I get my truck serviced. We've already talked about it even before I got the car.

In the end it's personal preference, but check different places out and see what they tell you.

PS. my dealer also washes it too for free
also the amount you pay for synthetic gives you about the same as two oil change

Most of the "oil change" places might be more competitively priced, and won't void the warranty(deal with the repretable ones ONLY), as long as you keep records of your changes. Remember, don't skimp on oil changes, it's the life line of your engine .
A $100 oil change is far cheaper than a $20,000 engine replacement.
