That seems like a lot of money. Are you positive that price is correct? Warranty costs can vary, depending on the vehicle, the length of coverage, the amount of mileage, and the amount of deductable you choose.
I've never heard of strictly "electrical" extended coverage, usually extended warranties covery everything. Is this a GM Protection Plan, or some aftermarket company? Are you buying the warranty when the vehicle is brand new, or is it a used vehicle? Regardless of the price, warranties are like car, home, health, and life insurance policies, they are only worth it if you need to use it. If you don't have any problems, then it's a waste of money. So, as Clint Eastwood once said "Do you feel lucky ......?" |

I learned a long time ago, never buy extended warranties on cars.

I would challenge that notion. I've bought an extended on the last couple of Chevy's I bought and they all more than paid for themselves. The key is not paying full price for them and if you are going to keep your vehicle more than 5 years and don't buy an aftermarket, buy only the GM one.
Here is a tip for all of you, go to www.fichtnerchevrolet.com, call them and ask for Dennis Fichtner (I think) or just tell them you're interested in buying an extended warranty, they will route you to the right guy. They will sell you a GM warranty for almost cost, typically the lowest prices around. You don't have to go through your dealer, you can buy it from anyone. For our 2007 Avalanche, I think I paid about $1200 for a 7/70,000, 0 deductible warranty. |

Is that a type-o? Seems really expensive....a full bumper to bumper gmpp warranty is much less then 4k.

Dealer mark-up is 100%. There are other online sites selling GMPP's at close to cost (threads about it in that section).
No idea why anyone would get just an electrical warranty, when "bumper to bumper" covers more. |

Are you buying it with a new car or used car? Used car warranties (including GM) will usually cost more than if you negotiated it with new car price. But, that still seems extremely high. For a used car, shouldn't be anymore than $2500.

Only Warranties I've had: Tires (not covered), Brakes(not covered), Exhaust(not covered), Oil Changes(not covered), Glass(not covered) etc... add everything else that DOES go wrong with a car in the first few years. These were GM new car warranties.
