How do YOU shift? (manually)

Do you skip gears? Go thru all the gears no matter what? Sometimes, when entering a highway via on ramp, I'm up to higway speed by 2nd or 3rd gear and just go straight to 6th. Even in town I can skip gears (even when I'm not ordered to by the computer)

What are your shift habits and opinions on what's harmless or harmful?

I usually go thru all the gears except when it's cold and hard to go from 1st to 2nd i'll go into 3rd until it warms up. I'm not much for skipping gears.

I do this too - though with the weather we've been having recently my 2nd gear probably thinks I put him in time-out or something

depends. If I have to speed up in a hurry, like getting on the freeway or having to cut into traffic from a side road I'll usually wined out 3rd and then drop down into 6th at about 70mph. other than that I'll usually go through all of them except maybe 5h.

If I wanted to skip gears I would have an automatic, I never skip gears.

Very, very seldom skip gears when picking up speed but skip gears when decelerating. I like to use second gear a lot when slowing down and will grap it from fifth or fouth a lot.

I just put it in sport mode, and let the car figure it out.

that makes no sense whatsoever.
as the power of the manual is what ALLOWS you the power to skip gears..
the auto is the opposite you cannot skip gears.

yes I will skip especially from 3rd to 5th or 6th when on the highway.

and will damn sure skip going down.

I don't typically skip, but mainly because I just kind of enjoy going through the motions. Skip on the way down, and usually do not go below third when downshifting. Again...No particular rhyme or reason.

I only start skipping gears when my D.I.C says 10 mpg or lower

I never skip gears upshifting, I don't see the point. I do skip while down shifting if I need to, or when coasting in neutral to whatever gear it should be at the speed without it engine braking.

I don't hardly ever skip. I like the feeling of going through the gears. I even got rid of that annoying skip shift. Either way doesn't hurt anything. The biggest deal is how you clutch it. Burnt clutches and broken teeth on sychronizers are not fun to replace. However I would rather tear open a manual tranny than an auto anyday.
