Yes and no. While shorty's will give you gains, the gains will be no where as big compared to LT. Though LT need a tune for you to get the full potential out of them. So question is, are you going for numbers here? or do you just want more sound?

You'll get more responses if you post this up in the V6 section.
To answer your question, shorty headers are a waste of money. Since you're on a budget you should save your money until you can spring for the long tubes. |

what happens to the cats when you add long tube headers? You remove them or just move them back?

You have to get cats that work with the LT headers. The OEM cats won't fit.

..be aware that LTs will require a tune(bye bye warranty), should you need to take it back to the dealer for any problem..have money saved up for this?

As a college student who also is on a budget, I know the feeling. I went with Doug Thorley's. Overall quality, power, and price were my factors. I got them for $309 shipped. However, it was another $300 to get them installed. So, there's a lot to think about; but, I'm happy everytime I nail the gas I got DTs.

Not entirely true. Some dealers could care less and it would only be an issue for them if the warranty work was expensive enough to have to be approved by GM.

A specific dealership might not care, but if you ever have to go to another one.. might be screwed. And once it's voided doesn't matter what dealership you go to I would assume.
