I didn't know about this and gassed up myself the first time - how I don't
know, but never again thereafter.

I think the OP means why does the pump keep kicking off because the nozzle depth is wrong.

You move to New Jersey where we aren't allowed to pump our own gas and now I understand why.

My early '10 SS had the short fat tether therefore you couldn't do this. It wouldn't even fit onto the hook on the fuel door to hold it. The trick was to tie one of those elastic hair ponies to it so you could hang it on the hook while you pumped. They changed this to a longer thinner tether sometime later in the '10 model year.

I would't let any gas attendant put gas in my car,I wonder how many have gotten dents from the gas nozzle with those people filling your tank for you.

NY = Levers have tabs broken off. Have to stand there. Back in the day I used to jam the cap under the lever and then walk inside while the gas would pump. Its definitely a no-no these days...I am sure someone or something caught fire and that was the end of that.

NJ = their levers work and have a lock mechanism - but they dont walk too far away.

As a former petroleum dispensing engineer in high school I'll tell you that most times any damage occurred was due to where someone parked....less room for the attendant to work increases the probability of damage. Park 4 feet out from the pump so there is plenty of room to work and most guys won't have to be contortionists to pump your gas.

I was a former hydro ceramic engineer in high school. Maybe we went to the same engineering school????
