I've never worked on the 4th Gen. I have no idea.

It's not that hard. I'm in the middle of a heads and cam swap, and the heads were simple to take out. Just a lot of bolts to undo, a bunch of electrical connectors to undo and one fuel line. It is really straight forward. The pain in the ass is getting the old graphite gasket off.

If you look at them again, check closely they are probably not in the same position if you measure their depth. The firing order should be 18436572, which means when no. 1 is at top dead center (TDC) so is no. 6. The difference being that one of them is TDC compression and the other is TDC exhaust. No. 8 with 5, 4 with 7, 3 with 2. The depths of those pairs should be indentical. Usually when the head gaskets are blown you can actually see it on the gasket when the heads are removed.

Also I'd watch what heads I would install on the stock motor. Not knowing the mileage sometimes new heads, let alone performance heads, can blow the bottom end. If the motors getting up there you might want to think about a rebuild. Don't want to scare you but it's something to think about. I've seen that happen before in the garage I worked in. But I wish you all the luck.
