TO CUT OR NOT!!! - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I have a set of H&R 35mm lowering springs, which translates to a 1.4" drop all the way around. the issue is that the guy i bought them from had the same set up as i have with 22" rims 9.5 frontand 10.5 rears, but he says that his install guy didnt cut the bump stops on his struts. I went on the forum and looked for DIY of H&R springs but no joy!! So i pulled everyting from Pdat, Ebach, and BMR, installs, and all of them say cut the bump stop 1" off. So i need to know if anyone of you guys did the same install height, or install for that matter without cutting the bump stop. And ultimatly what is the right answer from the experts, to cut or not?

I installed Eibachs on my car, and didn't touch the bump stops. Not necessary, and I think if you go to the Eibach website, or look at the instructions, it will tell you that you do not need to cut them.

My BMR spring instructions stated NOT to cut the bumpstops. I even checked their site and it said not to cut them. Even the Eibachs I had said not to cut.

Ok you and the other guy above me are right. This is where i go that info from. Scroll to the bottom of the site and you see the cutting part.

Yeah some springs require you cut but not the BMR or eibachs.

The only ones I've seen that require the cut are Pfadts. I had Hotchkis for a while and no cutting with them either....then again those were 1".

We would recommend following the instructions as published by your spring manufacturer.

With our springs we do suggest that you trim your bump stops, it's extremely simple and has no adverse effects to handling or ride comfort. When you lower your car you're placing your shocks in a different portion of their stroke, and by removing some material from the bump stop you reduce the likelihood of riding on the bump stops over big hits. This ultimately makes the shock more functional for the ride height your trying to achieve.

Again, if you have H&R springs follow the instructions posted by H&R.

I installed H&R springs and cut the bump stops..the car rides awesome and does not bottom out....

That's an insane drop. You running the H&R 1.4's or 1.8's?? I'm getting the BMR 1.4's and if this is how my car is gonna look, then I am one happy camper lol

I have Eibach's, instrustions say DO NOT cut.
