After getting the Idea from this thread and using the paint suggestion from fellow member FIRENGNRED, Rustoleum Sunset Red Plastic Paint, I finally got around to painting the trunk covers. Dosn't look half bad and I think the color is real close.

Washed with dish soap and hot water and 3 coates of paint and done.

You should definitely make a DIY thread, that's a great little mod!! Really give it a finished look.

Why not post the paint and prep info in the thread?

Maybe call your dealer about paint information?

I was able to buy spray cans of 2006 GM Ultra Silver Metalic for use on my Cobalt's trim pieces and the color was a 100% perfect match and the can was about $17 each.

I assume that at some point camaro colors will be available in Spray Can form aswell.

The colors are available (through the dealer and others). I just never know if I need primer, top coat, and clear coat.

I went to Autozone for the Rustoleum Sunrise Red Plastic Paint.

I washed it with soap and water and applied 3 coates per the instructions on the can. No Prime or Clear needed.

If you have a victory red car this is a close match. I also did the engine cover and the fuse box cover. They are pictured in the DIY thread on weekend engine cover project.

I saw a number of coler match paint at Autozone as well. In the DIY someone use a can of colormatch to do there IOM engine cover and it was pretty close as well. Might check and see how close of a match you can find to what your looking for.

Very Clean!

You should consider editing this thread to a DIY and having this thread moved by a mod.

Very cool though. I too would like the paint/prep info - I've been considering doing mine in Gloss Black.

Size: 65.2 KBEveryone, I originally didn't post the paint and prep info because I really didn't think that this mod would create such an interest, but now that it has I'm going to share the mod and I've also added another pic which has more sunlight showing the metal specks in the paint which IMO helps the mod look more like IOM because of the pearls that are in it.
The color I used is Duplicolor metal specks Burnt Copper. I was able to pick this up at my local autozone (around $7.00).
To prep I took the covers off, washed them with mild soap and cleaned them up real good to make sure there was no oils, dirt etc.... dried them off with a lint free towel/chamoas, I then sprayed a few coats of duplicolor adhesion promoter (both sides), let set for a few minutes then applied several coats of the burnt copper paint letting the coats dry about 5-10 minutes before adding another coat, after letting the paint dry about 30 minutes I then shot a couple coats of acrylic clear, let dry overnight then re-installed the next day. For the plastic snap in covers (6 total) I used Duplicolor Metal specks Sparkle Silver with the same process. This paint almost looks chrome. Well, I Hope this helps let me know if and of you have any other questions. Thanks.
One last thing, it is very important to spray the adhesive promoter in order for the paint to adhere correctly to plastic. Enjoy!

Nice, but my opinion is I don't need this, is it really worth the effort ?? I think I have opened my trunk twice in the last 10 months ONLY to disconnect/connect the battery...I am glad though that people on this site realize they can do whatever they want to their car !!

I'd be curious to see what it looks like on a SIM. Pics if you do!

It isn't all that bad in black, but it does look 'unfinished'.

everytime I was my car I open the truck (and hood) to get the drips out. it's a good idea as it will keep it cleaner, you can get all the water from under the spoiler, and it makes it easier to dry the bezels and any remaining water that seems to stick around in there and drip out when driving it later.

this mods looks really good! I'm not sure if I want to do it to mine yet though. I kinda like it black. maybe I'll paint them a glossy black or something.
