Miss that morning commute. Lived on the kitsap peninsula for 15 years, beautiful when you can see it.

Try driving on the Dan Ryan expressway in Chicago! Some of the most beat up cars you'll ever see & everyone of them is doing 85 mph. I get nervous just driving on that highway certain someone is going to hit me.

Lets face it, all a speed limit is , is some other persons idea of what speed is safe for an unknown vehicle and driver quality.

I'll be honest, I've been driving for 34 years with no accidents. I drive the speeds I want to for any given condition, and sometimes that is slower than posted limits, sometimes its faster.

I also don't own a cellphone, eat while I'm driving, listen to music or other distracting activities, I pay attention to the road and what others around me are doing or may decide to do, and constantly check my mirrors, blind spots and monitor my gauges.

I know my cars and I know their condition, state of tune and capabilities within a safe margin. I do not push them beyond what is safe, and what they or I are capable.
Legal?...by the word of the law, NO.
Requires a radar detector, sometimes.
You asked for a reason. This is mine.
I like this post, but I don't think it's true. At least not the part about speed limits being for the stupid. I think the posted limits are meant for the worst conditions motorists are likely to encounter. In other words, speed limits are for when it's raining or snowing. The civil engineers had to cover worst-case scenarios for their roads.

Reagardless, I like having my V1 tell me if there are cops nearby, whether I'm speeding or not. It can usually see them before I can. I guess I do speed a lot. Some towns' speed limits and stop lights (I'm talking about you, White Settlement, TX, and Colorado Springs, CO) seem designed to aggravate and provoke people to speed. If you don't speed you will catch every light. Sometimes I get tired of catching every light. Especially if there's no cross-street traffic to stop for. Sometimes I'm in a hurry. Sometimes I think I'm a better judge of how fast I can go than a sign. Not saying I am a better judge, but I like being able to speed a little if I want to. For the record I haven't had a speeding ticket in ten years, and I didn't have a detector at the time. They work.
