INDY PACE CAR

Hey Texstar- Mine was made on 4/15 and is VIN# 9185192.... 3 days and 207 cars before yours. Pretty close. I also have a '69 Z11 Pace Car. I know at least three other '69 Pace Car owners that have purchased the '11 model. I wonder how many 11s went to people that own 69s. (I bet quite a few)

Thanks autoguy, can't count on GM to stick with there original plan, but it's nice to see they made more sticks to fill the demand.

It was not up to GM... Each dealer who had an allocation was allowed to order either the Auto or the Manual most of the M6 Manuals were pre-ordered. I think, as I found out, that some dealers who ordered for stock, i.e. not pre-ordered, just ordered the default Automatic.

Hello everyone! I just found this forum, and am excited to be able to participate in the feed!

My husband purchased my automatic 2011 Chevy Camaro Indy Pace Car 'Replica' at the beginning of April '11 as an Anniversary gift (just like I read in a previous post, just my experience wasn't as romantic. lol). When I seen it in the show room, I knew I just had to have it! I am not really a car collector; however, this one just called to me. I traveled about 200 miles to get a Camaro convertible thinking just about any color would do. Then, I seen her! I wanted to drive this baby home. And that I did!

My VIN# is B9178301, purchased in Hammond, LA at Ross Downing Chevrolet Dealership. I have managed to slip in a few joy rides, but she manages to stay below 600 miles. She even still has the new car smell!

I appreciate the information you all have gathered and shared! I look forward to learning more about my car and its history. Happy Riding!

The problem I see using the 2012 ZL1 as a Pace Car would be that coups are not prefered by Indy since it is much better using a vert at the festival parade and other functions where people can see the drivers and occupant/s. Though I did see the 2012 Indy 500 logo on a GM spy photo of the ZL1 testing back a few months ago so it would not surprise me.

It is not uncommon at all for them to use a coupe, or a limited availabilty car as the pace car (three total, main and two back-ups), and use and entirely different vehicle for the usually 50 or so Festival cars. They did so fairly recently when Monte Carlos ('99) were pace cars and Camaros the Festivals. When the SSR paced the Festivals were 'vert 'vette's. So if they had decided to use the ZL1 as the pace car they could have had SS 'verts as the Festival cars. The annoucment was supposed to have been made already but got delayed, should be making it soon though.

I agree that would be the preferred approach to make the three Pace Cars ZL1s. I have been racking my brain trying to decide what type of scheme they would come up with to make it different than a standard ZL1, other than just putting some stickers on it....stripes?????....unique paint?????......
