Interesting.. I would have expected some other well liked brands to have come in better. I guess it comes down to marketing, preference to each individual and real world experience.

Too bad they didn't put regular Pennzoil Platinum on the list. Would have liked to see how it faired also.

Nice test.I still think changing it sooner matters more then the type but it is still good info.

As well as the XL Amsoil. I change oil usually between 5 and 7k, which is a normal riding season where I live. XL = 12k mileage vs. 25k on Signature. I go with the XL.

Walmarts Super Tec full synthetic 5w30 beat out Mobil 1.
That's gotta open a few eyes.

Not to be an ass....but I'm sure the bottom line is...they all lubricate well beyond what most of us can put our engine through.....IF oil and filter are changed at regular intervals and with proper maintenance.

I agree. Ultra Platinum is ULTRA scarce in sw, Pennsylvania (like not available), so I just run the Platinum.

^^^ This will always be the more important factor over brand of oil chosen. But as always, correct grade DOES matter.

That's gotta open a few eyes.

I've been using SuperTech for a few years now. Saves me a fortune and the cars run great with hardly any oil burn between changes.

Super Tech oil filters tested pretty high too.
I use both their oil and oil filters in my other cars.

My blackstone oil reports show differently. I saw this video a while back and decided to give it a shot.

My iron levels and such went up when I switched from Mobil 1 and tried Amazon/Supertech, and I do 4500 mile oil changes. Blackstone labs said that the increase in iron levels show extra wear on steel parts.

They were saying that the switch in oils might not necessarily be the culprit, and that it could be from tracking the car or driving it hard... but neither of those things are things that I do with my Camaro.

Switching back to Mobil for a couple of changes and my stuff has settled.

I wanted to switch and save money, but it wasn't worth it to me.

This reinforces my decision to go with Amsoil, although I am running Amsoil Z-Rod 10w30 and not Signature Series, but pricing is the same. I just wish the Amsoil wasn't so expensive comparatively, although it's really not that bad overall.

Self changes including filter went from around $66 with Mobil 1 5w30 Extended Performance to around $90 with Amsoil Z-Rod 10w30 (A little more if no free shipping). That's with the Preferred Customer discount bought online from Amsoil directly. If bought locally it would be closer to $105. ($9/qt vs. $12/qt). I am going with 4,000 mile intervals on the new engine which is around 8 months for me. Not bad at all.
