g8 handling vs camaro
anyone know if the g8 platform is a fair representation of how a camaro will feel driving?
I prefer smaller cars, I'm driving a mini cooper S right now, and I'm in the market for a slightly larger coupe my short list is a bmw 135i, and the camaro, similar performance numbers, the bmw is probably a little more money, and that twin turbo engine scares me, I dont think I want to own one after it's out of warranty I'm trying to decide if the camaro will feel too large for my taste, I've driven my boss's old z06 and it did feel pretty big, and I've test driven g8's, they did not feel quite as long in the nose as the z06 it's easy to take for granted how well this mini cooper can dart through traffic |

No way a mini cooper is going to keep up with a vette in traffic or any other forum.
Follow the link below as factual data concerning above statement. |

That's not really what I was asking about
I'm concerned about the size and how big the new camaro will feel i've already driven my boss's z06 a few times, and I did not enjoy it in traffic at all, it's much easier to drive my mini cooper in heavy traffic |

no doubt about that
but back to the topic, do you all think the g8 will drive like the camaro? Because I can test drive the G8's now, and decide if it'll work for me I've already driven the 135i and I know how those handle & feel, 3 month wait if I order one |

The G8 will likely give you a fair idea of how the Camaro will feel since they share the same platform. Just remember that the Camaro is a coupe instead of a sedan so it ought to feel smaller and more nimble.
Frankly though I can't see the Camaro comparing to the size of your Mini. Luckily the HP differences ought to compensate for the larger size. Hope this helped answer your actual question.

Agree. I do not believe if you think that a Z06 does not handle better on the open road and gives you more controll in and out of traffic that you will think a Camaro will either.

BMW 300hp TT, 0-60 in 4.7 sec, 13.3@106, and .89 g
Camaro/G8 GXP 402hp NA, 0-60 in 4.7 sec, 13@108, est. .89 g, and world class stopping at 60-0 in 112 ft. Not only is the Camaro gonna be cheaper, its gonna be a lot more easy to buy parts for/cheaper and after market is gonna be allover it like flies on....well you know. But if your looking for something bigger but not to big compared to your mini and need to compare the size diff. i beleave the Camaro is 3ins wider than the mustang, 3ins shorter than the charger and about 3ins lower roof line also gie or take a few i think its posted on here somewere about the size diff, hope this helps Last edited by 65bus; 07-30-2008 at 08:08 PM. Sheesh people, did you not read the OP!?
Sorry about the knuckle heads on hear. I would not judge the new Camaro by the G8 or anything else, wait and make your decision after you test drive one in about 7 months. |

If a chip is gonna cost 2k then why would you even consider the BMW im mean come on you can purchase a SC between 2-3k and please show me were a chip is gonna produce more power than a SC. I was saying it was a better Value not better performer thats all in oppinions and the driver. You know there is gonna be a hole lot more market/parts ava for the Camaro vrs BMW besides 135 is an economy car to BMW and still will have a price tag of $36,000 C&D said the BMW was over priced when it was just a few change short of the 5 series. Im not downing BMW or the 135 but to me imo if i was looking for a performer with after market it would be the Camaro and if i were looking for a luxury sports car than it would be the 135 but i would tag on the extra $8000 for the TT set up i would just go for the standard, and yes i was even considering the BMW but not now when you can get the Cobalt SS that does 0-60 in 5.5 and cost $13,000 less. Thats a lot of money to play test& tune with or just skip it and pocket the diff. all op's make a diff.:seesaw:

Anything is going to feel big and less agile compared to a mini, except maybe a MX5. The Camaro will be over 1,000 lbs more than a mini so even if it handles well for what it is its not going to feel light on its feet. The SS has a ton more power of course and its RWD vs FWD so that will add to the difference in feel. Go test drive a G8 GT and figure on the Camaro handling a little bit better, be a little faster and stop better and I think you'll have a good idea.
If you want RWD in a small package with more power than a mini a 135 is probably your best option. I'd say try an RX8 but it won't feel any faster than a Cooper S even if it is. |

I would never consider a cobalt SS, I wont own another front wheel drive car, ever
the rx8 really needs another 100hp, but I did consider it until I saw the stats on that engine it's got I'm going to test drive a g8 again and see how it feels, it's not about which one is faster, it's about which one is easier to drive in heavy traffic, and feels better |
