"Last" 2002 at the GM Heritage Center

I had the opportunity to tour the GM Heritage Center recently. I found this 2002 Camaro (supposedly the last one built). I'm not a 4th gen person but thought I would share.

Nice, too bad it wasn't a fully optioned SS vert.

I'd supply pictures of why this is so but unfortunately my memory card isn't big enough..

But dayum do I love driving it.

And yes, that's the last 2002. There was a picture taken of both the 2nd to last and last cars to come off the St. Therese lines and that Camaro was the Camaro.

The other was a Red T/A vert.

I'm surprised it wasn't a SS.

Yup, last 2002 Camaro (red Z28 convertible as pictured) and last 2002 Firebird (red Trans Am convertible) are in the GM Heritage collection.

Last "saleable" 2002 Camaro was the one that was auctioned off for $71,500 (again a red Z28 convertible).

Last "saleable" 2002 Firebird (again a red Trans Am convertible) is location unknown.
It was sent through the regular sales venues and sold at retail, so somebody out there is driving the last saleable Firebird ever built.
(Last 6 digits of the VIN are 172464)

Why would you say that? What is wrong with the Z/28

I completely disagree. The 4th gen was the performance Camaro. They have HUGE following.

I didn't say I didn't like them-I do! I didn't say they weren't great performers-they were! [I owned two 4th gens.]

But, they were junk. They were some of the worst-built cars GM ever turned out. I was a service manager at a Pontiac/Chevrolet dealer in the late 90s/early 00s. Build quality was horrendous, and the list of KPPs [known product problems] was a mile long.

Case in point I'll post pics of my steering wheel where the leather ended 1.5 inches short of the mating point for the air bag assembly. Random 1 inch panel gaps are all over the place. Cracked door panels (don't you love those!).

But my god I still love this thing. This is the first car to honestly give me tears of joy when I drive it.

Nothing inherently wrong with a Z/28. It's just sad seeing the last cars off the assembly line not loaded to the gills with every single option available.
