1SS V-6 OIL PLUG LOCATION ?

Sorry for the novice question but which one is the oil plug under the 1SS Camaro. Is it the one facing the ground or the one facing horizontally. The one facing the ground is about 15 cm back of the one facing horizontally. The one facing horizontally is the one located right beneath the oil filter. Also what size socket is used on the oil filter housing. I'm assuming the socket plus an extension since the cover is the way. Any help would be appreciated.

The V6 motor has a 15mm drain plug that faces the passenger wheel. I used a 15/16 - 6 point socket for the filter cartridge housing. Im assuming you mean LS

DO NOT... I REPEAT DO NOT REMOVE THE PLUG FACING THE GROUND!!!!!!

It's imperative that you don't so that... that's the transmission fluid. I did it and had to have my car taken by rollback to have the tranny fluid put back in. It's a sealed transmission and the fluid has to be added from underneath while it's sitting on level ground. Impossible to do.

Check out this link for my adventure. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44081

I'm sorry, I meant ILT, must have been instinct to write SS. OK, Dew, I took the bolt facing the front passenger wheel. I just did it about 2 hours ago, you know what, be careful because the oil gushes a couple feet and than creeps back to the where the bolt is located. I had it on a hydarulic lift so next time i am going to use two oil pans. I used a crescent wrench for the filter housing but i stripped just a tad bit, it'll still fit a socket. So did you use an extension with that socket? If you did, did it come in contact with the engine cover?

Whew, had me worried there for a sec. Seriously, that was a real PITA lol. You could replace the tranny fluid on a lift, I was on ramps.

I see disaster happening. You spent good money for your car and you want to take a chance on a $30 oil change. If you don't know the difference between the engine oil pan and trans oil pan, DON'T TOUCH IT! Let someone do it for you properly and you'll have piece of mind.

For those of you who are novices, this link is a good thread on oil changes - worth reading through. There is a picture of the oil plug location, but it's a pic of the V8. There are some good pics of the V6 filter on page 3, post #60. I used a 15/16" socket with a 4" extension for the filter cover and had no problems.
