Idle at a stoplight, still gets around 200 but the fans kick on early due to tune. On the road and driving, cooler, 180s most of the time. All the 160 does is open earlier to start flowing...

Hammdo thats how I understand it too and for track days that means nothing since we are in the 200s water temps in the warm up laps.

Bingo... once temps are up, that's it. I don't see a big benefit except starting the flow sooner. Once it's hot, it's hot!
Bigger radiators etc make a difference and having coolers for each specific fluid; oil, trans, ps, hx, intercoolers, [I'm supercharged), diff, coolant mix, etc reduce the work the bigger radiator has to do... -Don

Flexalite is massive and a great fit. Track temps haven't gone over 212 in 95 degree heat, typically stay around 206 depending on the number of WOT straights.

I have both in the garage waiting for my back to recover from the 11 screws I just had put in my spine. The above temps were with an SS front end and the lower airflow compared to the ZL1 front so it's possible temps will go down even more. Stock radiator I saw temps up to 240 before I pulled into the pits to end the session early.

CSF -- got it from JDP -- fitment was perfect -- nothing to change, just a Direct Replacment...
And I too have the ZL1 bumper -- lots more air flow! -Don

Synner, did you use the factory fans?
Also, what did you use for the trans cooler?

No I got the upgraded fans too. Much better in stop and go. I initially got the flexalite trans cooler kit but have since gone with a larger one since temps were still exceeding 210 on very hot track days. I would not recommend it for track duty or high stall auto cars. The new one is still a tube/fin so not super efficient but pretty big. I went this route due to packaging, most of the more efficient plate units wouldn't have fit with my oil cooler location since they're wide and the one I needed was taller. There's not much room left, extra-wide 50 row oil cooler and the trans cooler. I still use the brackets that came with the kit in a modified fashion but if I had to do it all over I'd just weld custom brackets to the impact bumper. Would have been way easier in the long run but I was under a time crunch and didn't want to mess with repainting.

Update on coolers and performance. This was at Barber MSP. Not too many super long straights but still a fair amount of WOT. I must say I love Trofeo R's.
1) Earl's 50 row extra wide kept oil 245 or below, 85 degree ambient temps. Finally success! 2) Trans cooler, the crappy flexalite tube fin 7-1/2'' x 15'' x 3/4'' kept things 185 or so. I'm happy with this and I also have the diff cooler plumbed to this so more fluid capacity but more added heat too. 3) Flexalite radiator and fans kept water around 195, still amazed with it's performance and one of my best buys. It was only a 50/50 mix so possibly lower temps are possible with a 30/70 or 10/90. No additives used. Done screwing with coolers. Now my aero that I can't get to fit... |

Those are good numbers Synner. For the oil cooler, what size lines and how are you tapped into the system?
