what does varying the speed mean exactly? meaning drive on a 55mph road for a while and then get on one to do 35 and then get back on 55mph?
dumb question I know |

Needs some stop & go and some left / right to work brakes and suspension. And as to the original poster always break them in easy imo*. I also recommend some Royal Purple break in oil for your first change then 2nd change back to regular Royal Purple 5/30w full synth. http://www.royalpurple.com/breakin-oil.html I run 10/30 in RP in my Vette atm and she loves it. Also run it in my Chevy truck. Now I don't know about the break in oil and your warranty. Either ask them or just change it yourself and use a Delco Filter hehe (stealth juicing) and there main schedule. (I.E. at a few hundred you swap in the break in oil). |

Firstly, to get a decent break in use regular oil. Do not go with syn till she's broke in. Synthetic oil can resist break down and wearing that is required to get full compression. And by the way, my experience with my last two chevs , the 04 Implala SS and the 07 Silverado, did not break in till after 10K to 12K kms. I say it's ok to rev'm after 1000 km or so.......many schools of thought here tho eh!

hmmm...so in a nut shell you guys are saying to drain the mobil1 from the start and put in a break in oil for the first 500 miles...change the oil and put in some more break in oil for another 500 miles and run the car hard? so from 500-1000 miles i wanna break it in b4 i put in reg synthetic oil? i always thought you should never really pass 3-4k rpms until i have atleast 3k miles on the car.

Please take my advice and just break it in easy. You'll thank me later. A gently worn car is worth more and just looks and feels better than a dogged early. You want to take it easy like a long date. Don't rush to the bedroom. Then again maybe I just have too much class. But I win road races over 90% of the time so. Dyno is one thing getting your *** handed to you by a good driver in a well broken in Chevy is another. |

All i have ever been told was to vary the RPMs and speed, for the first 1000km and to avoid using the highway, and if you do, to change your speeds. And not to push it hard until after 1000km

Best Advice...
Send me a PM and I'll tell you where to meet me and I'll handle the break in for you. May take a couple of months and thousands of miles but I guarantee that I'll , I mean your car, will be happy as a clam, really!
and no charge.

all of that said, if you are varying the revs in the engine shouldnt you be hitting high revs too? Im 25 so this will be my first new car, the only thing I have ever been taught on breaking in engines is vary the revs and really push the car a couple of times. I distinctly remember my dad almost getting pulled over for breaking in an engine and really pushing the car one time. |
