its not so much the car, ppl are figuring out let the oil temps get to opp temp . let the car cool off do a quick start up and quick lil burn out and hit it. if ppl started doing that it would help alot. the z is one hell of a car. its just in stock form its a good car . but it really comes alive with some simple mods. dont let ppl fool u.

1/4th mile time is just one measure of the car. You can build a V6 to be faster than a stock ZL1 in the 1/4th mile, but it won't have all the extra stuff and probably won't compete in the road course without a lot of other mods that have to be swapped on. Even then, it will never compare to the ride you will get on the street. The ZL1 is an all the time all conditions performer.

I think a auto heads/cam/stall SS with DR's making around 460RWHP would have no problem vs a ZL1 with DR's at the drag strip.

It also depends on who is driving. A guy in town has a '13 gt500, and he could not take me in my SS bolt on only.

When I was cammed and full bolt ons with stock heads I hit high 11s and low 12s all night long. Best I've ever seen a ZL1 do is a 12.3 with average being 12.6-12.8

What kind of power were you making and was that on P-zeros? I've been curious what my car would do in the 1/4 since I got the blower, but I haven't been to the track since last year. Back then, I was full bolt-ons and 3.70 gears and my best was 12.8 (although, I'm not a very experienced drag racer, so there was room for improvement). I was making about 350-ish rwhp. Now I'm at about 500 rwhp. I've wondered if I could make it out of the 12's with P-zeros.

That guy does not know how to drive his 13 GT500...... If he had his nannies off the car is actually slower(if you can't drive) as it wont hook until third, with the nannies on it hooks up better but you can feel the power loss in the engine as the ECM reduces the power to compensate for wheel-spin. If you know how to drive this car with the nannies off it flies.

The LSA engine is much stouter than the LS3. Go with a 417 stroker (since your in there add a cam and forged internals), swap the 1.9 for a 2.3 maggie or whipple, and crank the boost up to about 14 psi and you are looking at 725-750 to the wheels my friend!

Well my car makes 476 wheel which is ~560 crank. So 20 less than a ZL1 but it weighs less as well. Plus you have to factor in boost and such. I think I could take a bone stock one but once they do anything it's over. Especially a pulley.

My car is N/A with Lethal Racing Night Fury cam, Heads, LT Headers, Corsa, Vararam, and all supporting bolt ons. 508 RWHP. Seems to me that a ZL1 would have tough time getting around this one.

One thing to also think about is gears. ZL1 has 3:73 stock ss has 3:45. Based on the dyno ZL1's are 485 - 515 on the dyno. Another consideration is body movement. On mine when I switched over to pfadt rear frame and differential bushings It was like night and day for both handling and takeoff. An ss with engine, gears and chassis mods should be able to keep up or beat a zl1.

This is the most obvious and understated fact of a drag or any other race. If there is a significant difference in the abilities of the drivers, the "slower" car can win.

And you'll have a tough time around a corner, lol. I love when people compare a stock car vs a modified I justify there car being faster or choosing it because it was the cheaper route. Anytime you put $$ into a car to modify it itll end up being faster then it's big brother counterpart in this case the ZL1.
