I don't think there are any disadvantages to removing it. I've had to put mine back on once after transporting the car to J-Ville for a blower-tune. Front of the trailer ripped it half way off.
Is it just the rubber part or is it the front fascia that's rubbing? |

I believe it's just the rubber part. It barely hits it but it sounds horrific when it does scrape.

Actually I think you are in good shape if it's just that. You can either remove it or 'modify' it.
It would drive me nuts too. Guess you won't be lowering the car then? |

My car would scrape when it was at stock height. It was the rubber strip as well. I lowered the car and go on more of an angle and it occasionally scrapes but it's just the rubber strip So I just disregard it. As long as its not the bumper. It's not a problem really. Just check the bumper for scrape marks. If none it's the rubber strip taking the beating so it's ok
