ZL-1 would be perfect. Save the Z/28 as the answer to the Mustang's Track Pack.

I know I've said it 1000 times, I just hope someone at GM hears this. Al Op is right, it's hard to decide on a suiting name. I think they could do a ZL-1 as a stripped down 1/4-mile burner, and then make it available with the 2SS package, which would add leather, C&C package, etc for the people who want a little more luxury. This would keep the SS nameplate as the "top dog" options wise, and keep the legendary ZL-1 nameplate as the low production, stealthy "top dog" 1/4 mile wise. Who knows, maybe if they did a Z/28 suspension package, you could have a ZL-1, Z/28, SS/RS. Of course, they shouldn't badge the ZL-1 (just like they didn't in '69) so when you pull up next to a GT500, they think you are in a standard SS with some suspension upgrades... and then you hit blow their freakin doors off.

i like the whole 'stripped, no-nonsense' approach. if you want all that power and frills, get a CTS-V

Unfortunately if GM did that the magazines would completely rip the Camaro a new one. While smart, educated people like Camaro5 members don't pay any attention to what the magazines say, the majority of the general public does and that would seriously hurt sales. Not to mention all those people who wanted thrills AND frills would end up buying a GT500 if GM did that.

Remember the Mustang Cobra R? It didn't even have a back seat.

7 minutes? But the flip side to that is, think of the few that got one! They were really happy.
But, honestly, I want the options. I have a 4 door hot rod right now but there is something about a Camaro that is different. As a kid I dreamed of having the top dog Camaro like a Yenko or a COPO and now as an adult I'm able to do it and when it becomes available, I'll have one. Corvettes are cool cars but Camaros are muscle cars! I want a part of that history!
