To Powder Coat ZL1 Rims or Katzkin?
I have a bit of a quandry, Camaro5, and I need your opinions.
I have been saving up some money to put Katzkin leather in my car, I've always has plans to do so because the cloth is the only thing that realy makes my car feel cheap to me. It's the first car I've owned without leather. I'm about halfway there to the $1500. However, the car needs new tires which I just got and I have always wanted to get the polished ZL1 wheels powder coated ever since I bought them a year ago to look like the ZL1 Carbon concept. I figured now is the time since I have to get new tires mounted and balanced anyways. I have called around for estimates and it looks like it will run $170 per wheel due to the complexity of the taping and whatnot. Another reason this has moved to the forefront is I can't stand the ammount of brake dust produced by the Brembos I installed a few months back. So, do I use the Katzkin fund to get the wheels powdercoated or do I save up another $700 and do the Katzkin? Please vote! |

Haha those were the ones I originally wanted but I got a screaming deal on these over a year ago. Plus I like a little color in my wheels!

I'd put some money into hawk ceramic pads. I like those wheels the way they look and the 10 spokes are becoming played out now with all the replicas out. As for the cloth, I like it I can think of many better ways to spend $1500 but can see why some prefer leather.

Part of the reason I was fine going 1LT is I was never a fan of the factory leather in my 4th gen Z28 and didn't find the gen 5 much better. It was always gonna be Katzkin. Thanks for the votes, keep em coming! |

I think you should get a second opinion price wise on powder coating. Or consider having them professionally painted.

Powdercoating must be high there. It only costs 200 for all 4 tires down here in Tx

It's only $300 to do all gloss black. They are charging so much more to tape it several times to keep the polished parts. It's the only place near enough to get a ride there and back. Still way more than I expected.

They are the best quality Katzkin offers, that's the installed price.

They are not seat covers. You have to remove the cloth and replace it with the leather. Anyway, go with Katzkin you already half way there.
