LOL! With a car like yours , there is no need to be jealous of mine...

Hey, let me know if you could use an extra Vararam filter element or cleaning kit for the V6. I've got an extra one of each that Steve told me to just give away to someone in the club.

Sure that would be great, I could use them - let me know when you are attending the next club meet.

I'll have to look at my schedule this fall...weekends seem to keep getting filled up with non-car related stuff.

My only wish was that I could get an SS in SGM in a 'vert.... Didn't happen...thanks GM!

So far, I'm not missing much by going with the SS. My MPGs are down ~2-3 mpgs over my V6 but that is mostly because I'm still playing and learning how my SS runs and handles. The AFM actually does an amazing job at keeping MPGs up when you are just rolling along on flat land at constant speeds between 40-65mph. My UltraGauge does real time MPG readings from the ECM and I'm usually sitting at 30-38mpg when AFM kicks in. One of these weeks, I'll do a tank of gas where I focus on fuel economy, just to see how high I can get it with the SS and AFM during my regular commute.

Even my wife said the muffler delete didn't go far enough in making this car sound louder like the way it really should. At least she gets it...

So far, AFM isn't bugging me when it kicks in. I can hear it better now than I could before but its not overly annoying (yet). Time will tell...
OK, I was going to purchase an axle-back system (Borla or Flomaster) but like you, I'm considering just straight pipes for the time being. The stock exhaust is just way too wussy...but you say your straight pipes aren't much louder? I don't know what your old cans look like but mine are HUGE under there and I'm thinking it should be at least 4 or 5 times louder without them. I was also slightly concerned about warranty issues doing a mod like this...is there any chance of engine damage?

BTW, love your Green SS.

I dont think intake or exhaust mods void warranty. Switch gears out, turbo, S/C, or tuning will.

Without the rear cans, it is louder than stock, certainly. Enough that I can remote start my car from 150 ft away in an empty parking garage at work and hear it, then listen to it idle. With the rear cans in place, I could barely hear it start and no way could I hear the idle. It has a nice tone to it as long as you stay out of AFM mode. Not that AFM mode sounds horrible, it just doesn't sound pleasing to my ears.

When I say it isn't loud enough, in comparison to my V6 and the Solo exhaust, I mean that my wife can no longer hear me (from inside the house) take off from the stop light that is 1/4 mile away.

I can't imagine any axle back kit being any louder than a straight pipe, unless you remove some of the restrictions upstream (resonator, cats).

Only part of the warranty it would void would be the exhaust warranty. Not that that part of the warranty is worth much anyhow.

Thanks for the info rolnslo!

I'm going to cut the mufflers off and see what it sounds like. If its not too obnoxious then I'll put straight pipes on. Otherwise I'll go with my local muffler shop here and have him outfit it with a Magnaflow or Flomaster. Thanks again for the info.

Good luck! I had the muffler shop just cut off my stock tips and put those on the end of the straight pipes for now.

Congradulations but you guys are kiiiiiiling me with the upgrades to an SS Everytime I see one of these threads it make me want to take every mod off my car and take her in only after 10 months. I am trying very very hard to not regret my 6 when I let the beauty take over my mind not even truly thinking what my ultimate goal was going to end up being.

but oh well.. I guess we live and learn. You did the right thing
