Replacement parts problem if GM goes bankrupt?

Anyone worried about getting parts for the Camaro if GM happens to go bankrupt. I know it's a "surgical bankruptcy" but wont there be a shortage of parts from the companies that make them? Also if they file bankruptcy what happens to our deposits/warranty?

Don't worry about it there will be plenty of parts.

We might turn into Cuba again (2010 Camaro's lasting 50 years lol) but parts won't be a problem.

Gasoline and roadside checkpoints, skynet v8 hunting robots etc. But parts.. no.

When they produce a car, they produce parts for over 10 years.

Yea that's just a joke. But maybe the first time could be during the depression if you wanted to be technical about it.

GM is not filing to shut the business down, they are filing to deal with crushing debt and to be able to have some leverage on UAW. They will continue to produce the Camaro and many other models. Additionally they have the US Government backing them with billions of dollars of our tax money so they are not going anywhere. They will get rid of Saturn, Saab, Pontiac and Hummer but it is important to note that the parts for all these cars are made by many dozens of suppliers and they will continue to make parts as long as there is a market. There really is nothing to worry about. Those who follow the industry predicted this long ago and bankruptcy is the best option to make GM viable. As a company however they will be much smaller than before and of course many more dealers will be shut down. They have about 3.5 times the dealers as Toyota and sell about the same number of cars per year so it is clear that we will see many more dealers go away before they are done.

There is a chance (see Chrysler) that certain suppliers might not deliver parts. But I think that GM has taken precautions against that. Deposits are NOT with GM, they are with your dealer. So GM's bankruptcy would no impact on deposits. Last I checked, warranties are guaranteed by the government.

dont worry about it. Another thing is a lot of parts on this car are already on other cars out there. Also aftermarket companies will be making parts as well

The imports like the Nissan and BMW types have more to worry about. There parts & service prices are already buku higher and are not going to go down.

GM is not the ones that make the parts. Other companies make the parts for GM. I am sure that they would continue to make the parts because there will continue to be a demand for them.

There could be a shortage of some parts from the weaker suppliers that would be harmed by a GM bankruptcy. GM did decide to pay their suppliers early, ahead of a bankruptcy filing, and so far the Chrysler bankruptcy hasn't triggered a wave of supplier busts, so it may not be too bad.

Deposits are not with GM, they are with your dealer. The money you pay for a car doesn't go to GM. It goes to the dealer, which originally bought the car from GM in the first place. Now if your dealer goes bankrupt or loses their franchise, then you might lose it.

That isn't the issue at stake here. GM will continue operating after Ch. 11. However, while restructuring under bankruptcy protection all payments must be authorized by the court. Many suppliers are on the verge of bankruptcy themselves, and possibly Ch. 7 filings at that, so any payment disruption could push them over the edge.
