tire stands to prevent flat spots
When my car is parked for more than a day, the next time I drive it I get the awful "thump thump thump" and lumpy ride for the first couple of miles. It's a flat spot on my tires. I've had cars do this before, but never as badly as the Camaro. I think it is because the rubber in the Pirelli tires is particularly soft.
I found these stands that are supposed to help stop the flat spot problem: http://www.griotsgarage.com/product/...2C+set+of+4.do And a pic: Have any of you used this kind of thing before? I'm thinking that I will want to get something like this for my car especially for when I store it for the winter. I think it will be helpful for the rubber to get off of the concrete floor of my garage. What do you guys think? Have you seen these from any place else for a bit better price? Thanks for your input. (Yes, I did a search and didn't get any helpful information. Pardon me if it's been discussed previously.) |

My car sits for a month at a time durning the winter, then I fire it up and back it out of the shop to run for a bit. I didn't notice anything when I took it out this spring.

Yeah, mine sat all winter and sits for days at a time without driving. Never had this issue.
I thought that was only with old school tires like polyglass. |

Mine does it as well with the stock Pirellis and the Pirelli 255/305 combo I have now.

Darth before you spend almost $260 try using industrial floor mats first and see if that cures your flat spotting.
Something like this or simular. http://www.industrialfloormats.org/ Good luck. |

It's not that big of a deal to drive for a mile or two and it goes away, but my brother once told me that the concrete floor of the garage can be bad for the rubber if the car sits for extended periods of time.
I'll try using heavy rubber mats and see if that helps. I thought the flat spot thing was a problem everyone would have had if you park your car in a garage with a concrete floor. |

My guess is its the Pirellis. Every car I have owned since I can remember has been parked on concrete. No dirt, gravel, or asphalt.

I was told by my tire dealer that today's radials won't flat spot. My Z06 has set for several months and I have never had an issue. He did say that if I wanted to be sure (my piece of mind) if I wasn't going to drive the car for a couple of months to put the tire pressure up to mid 40's.

me too
Yes I experience this also, not just after winter storage but during the warm months also.Two-three blocks and it disappears.During the winter months I get her out when the sun shines and the drive is cleaned of snow and warm her up and run her up and down the drive a few times.Loosens everything up.I might try to find a horse stall mat which is pretty heavy duty and try to cut it into four pcs. and try that.

My car sat for 4 months on a bare concrete floor... no problems.

Its pretty common for soft performance radials to flat-spot when parked, but it usually takes a few days to make it noticeable. You can also put your car on jackstands for winter storage, getting the wheels off the ground.

for winter storage, I would suggest putting it on jackstands. With the suspension loaded.
for your day to day flat spots, so to speak. I think the tire stands would be a good idea. I do not encounter that problem, so I don't have a first hand experience on solving the problem.
