People that get v6's are realistic and know that life doesn't revolve around a car. There's much more to life then owning a v8. I guarantee that there are a shyt load of v8 owners that can barely afford their cars but they keep them just so they can talk a big game.

It's just too bad that there's always one or two guys (V-8 owners) that get labeled by V-6 owners as "typical V-8 guys", as if their opinions on V-6s speak for all V-8 owners....This is ridiculous....lol...

...But yet to my amazement, it always seems to be a V-6 owner as the OP who "starts it all"....lol...

Horsepower sells cars. When I bought my V6, I was thinking, "damn, 312 HP is a lot, I'll never need 400/426." What I didn't realize at the time, was, these cars are heavy! If the Camaro was 3000 lbs, the V6 would be a rocket ship. The lesson I learned was, when buying a car, always always considers the weight-to-power ratio.

Well, I can barely afford mine, and my life DOES revolve around my car but hey, I'm OK with that!

Yep, like me. And lots of other V6 owners Had I wanted those 8 cylinders, I would've gotten em.

EDIT: That's not a slam..but I agree, regardless of which one you get it's not good to be where you cannot afford it. If you can afford the V8 and that's what you want, then I'm happy for you and glad you enjoy it. I know you get a lot of fun out of it, that's your thing. Me, I have other things I'm interested in besides cars. I also knew going into it I'd keep it a little while then sell it.

To be honest I think the V6 is fast enough. Getting the V8 is overkill. I Like the V6 for what it is; A kickass engine that puts out as much horsepower as a V8. But if you want the V8 get it. Don't ever let anyone talk you out of doing the things you love!

Well it looks like I ruffled some feathers. So here is my explanation, PERSONALLY I did not buy my Camaro for fuel economy or because it was less expensive than others. I wanted a beast as a second car, something exciting. It was my personal opinion the V6 in a rental car did not feel like 300 HSP. I didn't mean to upset the V6 owners on the forum.

It's the V8 owners that say things like a V6 Camaro is not deserving to exist that ruffle the feathers of V6 owners.
If the SS fits your needs then good for you, if the ZL1 fits your needs then good for you, if a V6 fits your needs then good for you, NOBODY SHOULD BE SLAMMING ANY MODEL OF THE CAMARO OR THEIR OWNERS BECAUSE IT IS NOT WHAT YOU WOULD BUY.
Many SS owners are respectful of what others choose to drive, the OP asked what the real differences were between the two, if he had gotten respectful answers like the v8 has more power with higher performance, better suspension, etc then nothing would have been wrong. But to start calling the V6 a woman's car or rental car or not deserving to be in a Camaro is uncalled for trash talk.

I think what I find so funny about these threads is that, as much as I like my car, it's just a camaro. a dime a dozen production car that GM makes 7-8k of every month. to listen to some of these guys you'd think they were cruising in a Maserati, Porsche, lambo, or even a corvette. it's a 400hp car that anyone with a decent job can buy. Hell, you can pick them up used in the low 30's. there arn't many people out there cruising in a 6 because that extra $75 a month on their payment would bankrupt them. people choose what they choose for other reason.

How is it 33%
Cylinder wise:
6/8= 0.75 which is 75% or a 25% difference
Horsepower wise:
323/426= 0.758 which is about 76% or 24% difference.
323/400= 0.8075 or about 81% or 19% difference.
Liter wise:
3.6/6.2= 0.58 which is 58% or 42% difference.

I don't see where 33% comes in anywhere.
