I've sold 3 cars on Cars.com over the years and have not experienced any issues on any of the transactions. Two cars were sold locally and the third car was sold to a fellow who flew in from out of state. I picked him up at the airport, drove to the bank, money exchanged hands, a notarized Bill of Sale was completed by the bank for each of us, I handed him the keys and he drove home. A lot of complications can be avoided by working out the details with your purchaser before they show up to look at the car. For example, for the out of state buyer I provided a 15 day temporary tag I purchased from the DMV which allowed him to drive home without worrying about tags. The temp tag was in my name but having a copy of the Bill of Sale putting the car in his name took any liability I might have had as he drove home per our DMV. Had I not planned ahead, after exchanging money the subject of tags would have come up and he would have been at a loss.
A lot of it is using common sense and protecting yourself money-wise and liability wise. Good luck on your sale.

AutoTrader. I've sold two cars on AutoTrader. Love it.
