How to protect sharpie signatures in engine bay?
So I'm sure most of you that have been to C5 Fest have signatures from Scott, Al, and the rest of the team. What is the best way to protect the signatures from fading / wearing away? Automotive clear coat?
I've got a clear coat and also a gloss coat in a spray can from Home Depot, don't know if that would do the trick or if I should do something else. Suggestions?

That would be my guess.
I would test first on another item to ensure it doesn't affect the Sharpie ink. You could also likely just cover the area with a Clear Bra type material. |

Try the clear on something else first, hate to see the solvent in the paint dissolve the sigs. Sharpie the side of a washer or dryer and see how the clear works over it.

I used PPG clear with no problems.
Scott signed my engine cover with more of a paint pen than a Sharpie, but I used PPG urethane clear and had no issues. Scuff everywhere you can (obviously avoid the signatures) and keep wax and grease preps away from the sigs, too.
Good luck! |

Depending on the clear coat formulation, it could dissolve it once sprayed. Clear Bra over sharpie does work. Make sure you apply the clear film first try cause pulling it back off can pull some of the sig off with it. I would have a professional do it. Wouldn't cost much.
