Why debut a model on a car set for replacement in less than 3 years? That's pretty much the one reason I can find.

Not to mention, if they debuted a car that was virtually the same as say a current SS while being 200-300lbs lighter....you'd have a huge uproar as to why the car couldn't have been that light to begin with...

The new Z/28 will not be the same as a SS.

That's kind of my point. The new 6th Gen is pretty much going to be smaller anyways, so it makes more sense to see it there. Also, it's not the first time the Z-28 was dropped or not carried for a set number of years.

This dawg has been run through the briars and the brambles...

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=149090

Defined as either a 1SS with selected ZL1 content OR a de-contented/re-engined ZL1, with superior power-to-weight compared to a BOSS (which means at least 475 hp, normally aspirated), and undergoing "parallel development" with the ZL1 as we speak (front-opening hood scoop on one "ZL1" mule; who sez all those ZL1 mules have MR?) is far from out of the question...

MY '13/'14/'15 still await the Gen-5 Camaro...so there's still time for Z/28 maturation...

There has been a Z/28 in every generation.
Why not a 5th gen.?

Has there been a ZL1 every generation? No

We won't know why the Z28 didn't come before the ZL1 until they do. We can only speculate. Maybe sales are too strong on the SS and they were afraid a Z28 would take away from those sales. A large percentage of Z28 owners are going to be SS and LT owners that are looking to upgrade after a couple of years.

We sure don't have much information on the next generation Corvette either and probably won't until the ZL1 is out.

I'm in the camp that now believes the Z28 will show up on the Alpha platform. The Z28 would be a good spring board for the next generation of Camaro. Everyone points to the next Z28 weighing less and having the newer DI engine, why re-invent the wheel and rush a Gen5. The ZL1 is the option for those us that can not wait a couple more years for the Z28. Are any of us going to go out out and buy a Boss302 because the Z28 isn't out? If so, you don't deserve a Z28.

We'll start hearing true rumors of the next Z28 once Mustang consistently recaptures monthly sales.

If GM had released the Z28 first everyone would automatically compare it to the GT500 as Chevy’s ‘best Camaro effort’ and GM loses. Release the ZL1 first and quiet the critics. Now release the Z28 which you’ve been developing all along alongside ZL1 to compete with the Boss 302. Not saying they will release a 5th gen Z28, but if they do I can see why it wasn’t released before the ZL1.

Now that is an interesting thought. Perhaps ala Grand Sport Corvette?

Maybe that's what GM has up their collective sleeve?

"Z/28" becomes ZL1...

What happened between the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) and the Chicago Auto Show (ZL1 Announcement)?

Something called a BOSS appeared...

Suddenly, a GT 500 competitor (blown V8, $50K+) had to be called "something else", because there was a serious effort by "those guys" at low-mid $40s that the MR'd LSA'd Camaro could not compete with...price-wise OR "concept"-wise...

That leaves room for the rightful heir to the hallowed Z/28 badge...price-wise AND "concept"-wise...with a healthy serving of humble pie, performance-wise...

Wise?

Stay tuned...

"Hot" LS3 with MR? Been proposed. Trouble is, no "hot" LS3 is certified/validated for Production...and remember, power-to-weight, a 3900 lb. MR'd Camaro will require at least 480 hp to outpower the BOSS... LS7? 500+...
