OnStar called me the other night while I was going down the road. Not on my cell, but actually on the car phone.

I'm not dishing out what they charge, especially considering I can use pretty much everything they offer via BT.

believe me the dealer can see everything a lot easier and a lot more readily than OnStar can..

If you blow a motor having OnStar active/not active, connected/not-connected will make ZERO difference, because the dealer will simply plug in the dealer Tech5 scanner tool and see everything they need to see anyway.

---

but you can do one of two things if you need the tin foil hat.

pull the OnStar fuse, and they can never connect to the car.

plug some type of ODBII gauge into the ODBII diagnostic port, it is a serial port so only 1 device can access it at a time, and a local device takes priority over the OnStar module..

here are a couple for you to see what I am talking about:

http://compare.ebay.com/like/1507330...Types&var=sbar

http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/index.htm

I use the Ultra-Gauge myself, and OnStar simply gets a transmission error everytime they connect to the car to send my my monthly diagnostic report, and the email report simply says that I have something plugged into the port and they can't read the vehicles diagnostics

You do realize how many millions of cars there are that are OnStar equipped... Do you really think they are recording all that information from all those cars? If you do then you have more problems than OnStar.

There was an extensive thread years ago with a women who ended up selling her Camaro because she was so paranoid about Onstar unless it could be 100% removed. She was crazy and thankfully gone now.

As for your concern if you are not paying they won't be doing anything.

But even if you don't have a subscription and the police are chasing you, the police can give onstar your plate numbers and they can turn off your engine.

I always wondered about that tin-foil...I would add it to antennas for better radio or rabbit-ears tv signal...Perhaps it helps improve ON-Star instead of blocking it....lol

yeah, um no.. OnStar doesn't track plates.. They would need to provide the VIN number to OnStar. .

Yeah, I guess it would be comforting to some that get thrown in jail for wreckless driving, or running from the police, that at least On-Star wasn't part of the reason you got busted...lol...
