Hi guys, i want to know something about the auto-dim mirrors on 2010 models. The mirror on the passenger side of my car doesn't have the auto dim function. They tell me because only the one on the driver's side has that function, is that true?

Never noticed any issues of being blinded in the passenger mirror
Although the driver side and interior mirror dimming are very noticeable as soon as headlights hit them.

It's true, only driver's side mirror dims. The passenger side doesn't because it's not usually necessary!

I just wish the dimming "darkness" was adjustable. They never seem dark enough.

Your passenger side rearview mirror does not dim because objects in mirror are closer than they appear.

But seriously, as far as the title of this thread goes, um, how iz ur Englich?

Why "are objects closer than they appear"? I've yet to figure out what a circus style passenger side rear view mirror serves. The problem of people changing lanes too quickly, "cutting off" the person you've passed is so big here they actually tried road signs warning people NOT to trust what you see in your passenger side rear view mirror.
If objects were where they were supposed to be instead of "closer than they appear", there would be no problem.
Sorry to hijack your thread, OP. Does this perplex anyone else or am I alone on this one?

It's an optics thing. Without getting too in-depth into the physics of it all, the basic gist is, the passenger side mirror on all vehicles is convex, which "distorts" the image and makes whatever is reflected look smaller than it would look if the mirror were flat.

I get what it "does", what I want to know is why a distorted mirror is preferable to a regular flat mirror on the passenger side when the distorted view it offers places both you and the vehicle you are passing in danger?
Look in the passenger mirror to see where a vehicle is (blind spot) and your convex mirror shows it well behind you. Make the lane change, and you are running someone off the road. IMO this is not safe.
A flat mirror shows you exactly where the car IS, not a distorted distance like the convex mirror shows.
And yes, before someone says it, I know to LOOK before I switch lanes, and make sure there is no vehicle in my blind spot. Rule of thumb I was taught was until you can see both headlights in your rear view mirror (the inside one) don't switch lanes.

A convex mirror provides the driver with a wider angle of view than a flat mirror does. It's actually part of the transportation safety code that all vehicles have to have convex passenger mirrors. The reasoning is to provide a wider angle of view to help reduce blind spots

Well if you noticed they live in Canada. Chances are their French might be better. Cut em some slack.

Never even knew the driver's side dimmed. Thought just the rear view did.
